Description A complimentary piece for my "Kornut" Porter in On18 scale/gauge. (O scale on N gauge track) I plan on having an entire consist of 18in gaige rolling stock for my little loco and this is just the begining.

They should be pretty easy to scratch-built, the chassis' are pretty much made from On2/On24 trucks and wheel sets. But with the wheels pushed closer together to roll over N gauge track, 18" in O scale. The bigest issue is finding a varieaty of On2 trucks. On2 is not exactly a widely popular scale and gauge choice so my options are limited.

Also on the list for On18 rolling stock are some Drill Bit cars. (this is for a mining operation after all) Water/Tank cars, Dynamite cars and House Cars (box cars) and a Riding car/Caboose or two. And lets not forget some ore cars. All of which would be two axle cars using a single truck like the flat car shown.

As for the ore cars they may come in 2 different varieaties. The first as 2 axel wooden side-dump cars. And larger 2 truck ore cars for longer distance transport of ore. These 2 truck/4 axel cars will utilize HOn3 or HOn30 trucks.

Small much? Should look good with 'Karnes'!

It does look good, but in retrospect I think it's a little too "backwoodsy" for my taste. I'm looking into using some larger 2 axle equipment for On20, I've moved my focus away from On18.

Buffers? Oh, you must mean the coupler boxes! I can see where they would look like buffers.

They're actually the coupler boxes for the Link & Pin couplers for the car.

Huh, now this is pretty creative, even within the cartoony four-wheel freight car category. I really like how the straps of the archbar truck are modified to be bolted to the carbody itself. Without leaf or coil springs, it almost looks like the straps serve as the suspension itself!

The idea is that it's just a makeshift flatcar for the mine trains. Though I have since decided to model On20, rather than On18.

Ooh, I see, a homebuilt job. I like it.

Man, all these gauges you plan to model, and I've hardly even HEARD of half of 'em!

Most of them are not of the "Ready-To-Run" veriatey like HO, O, On30, ect...

These gauges are where the craftsman part of the hobby still lives. Where most of the equipment needs to be scratch built or kitbashed, including motive power.

It's this part of the hobby, the craftsman roots of it, that really call to me. As well as their uniqueness and orginality.

When it comes to the rolling stock for my On20 tramway I want to keep most of them 4 wheel cars. However an occasional caboose and way car (for carrying workers) with 4 axels will be acceptable. Hence why I'm looking into the Chivers Finelines On30 kits. The 14ft ones anyway.

By the way, On20 is O scale on HOn3 gauge track.

"O scale on HOn3 gauge track"... egad! XD

Well, I see what you mean about the craftsman aspect, anyway. And some of those car kits look really cool (not to mention the locomotives!). I especially like the passenger coach. I can't help but think that cars that short would look better on four wheels than eight, but who am I to say. XD At least the coach is pictured on four wheels anyway.

That particular kit actually comes in the trucked veriatey with 8 wheels. However you can ask for a 2 axel conversion for no extra charge.
Same for the rest of the 14ft kits too.

I like On20 because the models would be a little more stable. So models built for 2ft/24in gauge would work well for On20 proportions. Mostly because there is a 4 scale inch gauge difference.

Also, 20in gauge line were all over Arizona during the copper boom. So historically speaking it would be more accurate to model.

Hm, interesting about the historical authenticity part. O.o

I take it that the alternative to On20 (besides the obvious On30) is running O scale stuff on N gauge track?

From what I have seen, On20 is taken far more seriously than On18. On18 models I have seen look fairly simple and most have a "whimsical" mentaility. Not that that's bad mind you. I just prefer more protypical approaches to modeling in their appearence.

However, there are a few On18 loco kits that I think would be suitable for On20. Such as Railway Recollections' On18 vertical boiler loco!

No... O.o That would cost upwards of around 5-900.000 in parts alone. Never mind the skill, tools, and materials I just don't have.

I'm looking at an OS 1870s 2-6-0 right now. It comes in kit form and it's much more manageable in price range.

I've been tracking down some of my favorite tracks. Ever heard of the game "Red Dead Revolver"? It has an AMAZING soundtrack!!

It's really quite EPIC sounding! So I've been pain stakingly looking for the music. I also have the classics like the songs from the famous Clint Eastwood Westerns. Such as "A Fist Full Of Dollars", "For A Few Dollars More", and "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". I also have the themes to "Silverado", "The Cowboys" (that's a really good, somewhat light-hearted movie) and "How The West Was Won". And even some of the erie-er side of the western genre. I've got the theme to "High Plains Drifter". (also a Clint Eastwood Movie) It has a VERY creepy feel to it, but it's still a good track.

Wow, this thread changed topics really fast.

I've been sketching out some designs for a dynamite car. At first it was just an old wheathered house car (that's what box cars were originally called) with the word "DYNAMITE" poorly hand writen on the side. But I didn't like that, so I'm starting from scratch again.

Hmmm, how do I fit a bunker on 4 wheels?
