Well, the "Kornut" model Porter anyway. I have some better scale drawings of the locomotive and I'll have to scan and post them at some point. This drawing was made using some from an issue of the Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette. (My favorite modeling magazine!) It had an article on a small 18" gauge Porter and that was what inspired me to create a tramway to add to my eventual On30 layout. Though instead of it being 18" gauge I elected to model On20. Plus it has a better historical continuity since my layout theme is set in the arid desert of Arizona copper mining.

The thing is that I'm not totally agains scratch building, I'm going to HAVE to do that for the body shell! But the frame and motor are what puzzle me.
I could probably make my own frame and what not, it's just I don't have the tools, meterials, nor the experience to do so. Then the other challenge is fitting DCC, which will be a must with ALL my locos.

I would actually like to make a bar frame from brass. It would be far sturdier and less likely to break, God forbid that anything would happen. Like what happened to Sam's 772. Shame really, what happened there.
Anyway, I don't know all that much about DCC either, aside from the the motor NEEDS to be completely isolated, electronically speaking.

Hm... brass would certainly be solid. O.o Wouldn't be too hard to do either, I suppose, especially for a small engine. Making some sort of jig would probably help with the soldering.

Ideally I'd like to mill out a frame and have a "Slot and Tab" arraingment so it all fits together firmly, then solder it.

Win loco! Would make a great model! I think Chivers or somebody makes a Porter conversion for that 0-4-0.

Forget the conversion! Imma' scratch build it!!!
Well the body shell, I still plan on using a Bachmann chassis.

I'm also thinking about using some HOn30 mechanisms if I can find them. They may scale out better in On18.

Maybe, but you pretty much only have that 0-4-0ST, and it's not much bigger than an N chassis.

I was just thinking about starting my own narrow gauge O layout (to save space), but I never thought of making it 18 inches instead of 30. Great drawing, and thanks for the idea!
