Description This is Gnarlwood. Home of Gnomes, Dwarves, Fairies and hyper-intelligent blue shadows

Had the luckiest painting session ever!! I'm really proud of this piece, because I had enough patience and bollocks to get over that frustrating zero-point where your painting is becomes a big blob of undefined shapes and has yet no depth or perspective. But I went on and now I feel so relieved, I can't tell you. At least I made a picture I would hang on my own wall.

Working time: 'bout 12 hours
Tools: Wacom Intous A3, PS CS3, Aspirin

Please don't steal. It feels much better to practise and have your own success. Believe me!

EDIT: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE DD !!!
Referring to my last sentence above, now I really can tell you how cool it is to get rewarded for your own work! This is very encouraging. MERCI BEAUCOUP!

UWAAAAAH!! :'O

I love this so dearly! Your attention to detail is captivating in this, and your clever use of objects and things we are familiar with being used in an unfamiliar, new way, is just awesome. I especially like the heart-shaped porch lamps

I still makes me happy to see that my picture has an effect on the viewer.
If I just could draw people as good as you, I could populate my magic woods.

Thank you very much!

I had a look on your work in progress and I'm really a Swamp Thing fan. It's a good idea to integrate the scenes into Swampies head.
What I would consider is to have enough visual silence between the different scenes. There's a lot going on and you can emphasize the details by separating them more. Or you can push back the not so important creatures by darkening them or reducing detail.
Then, that's just a matter of taste, I associate a swamp with muddy, muted and earthy colors. Maybe it's worth a try to reduce the color intensity and saturation a bit here and there and just leave the ,center stageβ€˜ intense. Especially the greens look a bit too juicy
I hope you found this helpful. It will be a great piece of illustration, regardless of my humble opinion. Thumbs up!!!

Cheers,
Frank

ur ideas r exactly where im goin frank, i totally agree. its not finished yet and i need to keep the colors a little bright at this point to determine compositional placement of key elements (that and my monitor is not the best, so when i have to zoom out to see where everything is, its helping to keep it brighter as of now! damn shitty monitor! lol). once i determine all my proper lighting sources and where everything is going i can do all the proper shadows and reduce those extraneous colors u deftly noted to keep your eye from wandering too much and control the composition. thanks sooo much for the critique! ill drop u a line when the more finished version is up and c whats up then. and congrats again on ur absolutely excellent pic!!

Glad to see that you're dedicated to your work. That's crucial and I often have problems to push myself forward. Anyway I'm very curious on your final artwork and after having a closer look at your gallery, I noticed that most of your pics are very motley colored. This is your own style and you should keep it up, if you like it.

thanks for lookin thru my gallery as i was lookin thru yours! first off its good to find a swamp thing fan in this sad world! second, i am trying to move on to other coloring stlyes now that i got the one down kinda. i personally like to use a lot of colors as experiments but professional work is going to require limiting and narrowing points of interest which is what im kinda practicing on now. i've only been digital painting for about a month now with my mouse and am gonna be getting a new comp n some form of tablet now that im gettin the hang of it. i will let u know when this piece has progressed to a more finished state that i hope u'll dig. its going to be huge and im greatly going to reduce the effect of the colors fighting for dominancy. dont be a stranger round here, cause i wont round yours. and thank u so much for comments. greatly appreciated

its a good mouse lol! quicker than the comp its attached to (as hard drive bursts into flames! very slow flames! slow like the hard drive!) i want to get a cintiq, but the middle of the road one, cause they r pricey as u probably r aware. also thinkin of upgradin to cs3 but dont know if if it would help much more, plus heard was confusing to learn a bit (even tho im a kwik study). if u have any input on any of the preceding statements i will pay u (in Respec! the most valuable currency, except for well, real money!) for schooling me in the ways of the force!
