Description Not much to say about this one. Wanted to try something with less saturated colors than I usually use. Also couldn't resist playing around with costume ideas yet again. (Heh, What else is new?)

The usual. Done start to finish on Photoshop. No references used. I think I might make a print of this one. I think it's kind of nice, even if she is a bit freaky looking.

Lover her look, the sense of motion with the wind, slither of snakes. Beautiful.

Your artwork is amazing, I'm so jealous of how you can do it all on photoshop. I have paintshop pro 7 which is similar in ways but I don't think I could ever make things like that. Great job ^_^

i think you could write an entire story around her, just by lookin at this piece i wonder who, what, where, about her... i want to know more of her character.. i love the detail and the depth you accomplished using such a dark palette, i believe the costume to be very unique and the entire image smoothes together very well

you did a really good job making those snakes flow without loosing the illusion of hair and not letting us forget they are snakes either. Great job over all!

Oh wow, what a gorgeous rendition of the Greek Goddess Medusa! Excellent work!!!

About Medusa:

Medusa was a terrible monster who had laid waste to the country. She was once a beautiful maiden whose hair was her chief glory, but as she dared to vie in beauty with Athena, the goddess deprived her of her charms and changed her beautiful ringlets into hissing serpents. She became a cruel monster of so frightening an aspect that no living thing could behold her without being turned into stone. All around the cavern where she dwelt might be seen the stony figures of men and animals which had chanced to catch a glimpse of her and had been petrified with the sight.

Thank you! I actually meant it to be a picture of one of Medusa's sisters, but it could be Medusa too. Doesn't really matter.

Darn, that's some crazy patience haku. Those snakes must've taken forever! It looks awesome overall, but when you look at where the snakes connect to her scalp, it kind of seems like there needs to be a more defined transition.

I'm totally digging the veil! It looks like there could be a surprise beneath it. <3

Ooh, I see what you mean about that hairline. I don't touch pics again once I've added my sig onto them, but hmm.... maybe a little more speckled pattern at the base of the snakes to smooth the transition? Or do you mean it would have been better to start the snakes more abruptly?

Yeah, the snakes did take forever. I was thinking, why couldn't the gorgons have had worms for hair, huh? Worms would have been a bit easier. :-P

tojisuzuhara In reply to hakubaikou [2005-06-07 21:53:01 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking more abrupt. I was just looking at pictures of greek scultures of Medusa, and most of them hide the hairline under snakes–such a cop out.
