Description If I only had the patience, some time I would do ten or twelve of these (high quality, high res at around 6 to 8 hours apiece with VL and reflections) renders with different building textures... and cut out different parts of them in Photoshop, combining them for some variety in the architectural design of the city. Alas, the older I get, the less patience I have.

Same here, the older I get...

...the more work I want to offload onto my computer.  Is there a way to do that, which doesn't involve so much manual labor?   Not knowing much about your software, I suspect not.  Maybe then the solution is different software.  Maybe generate fractals a different way, with a stochastic generative grammar.

Yeah, it's not the cutting and such, just tying up the computer resources for extended lengths of time. I can change textures without a new render, but would have to render the reflections again. I'll do it some day with a lower resolution image... probably

Hmmm...   Well, I still don't understand your software, but if the problem is how long renders take, maybe the solution is a second computer, to act as a server, and do the renders in the background, leaving your desktop free for you to interact with.   Or maybe an operating system that allocates its time in such a way that you can work interactively even while a big task is going on in the background. It's a matter of how its priorities are set.  It should give top priority to anything from your keyboard/mouse but grind away on the render at all other times.

Oh yeah, absolutely. I can do all those different solutions, and I have done so before. I was simply saying I don't have enough patience for longer tedious projects I guess. And I don't have a second computer although my son has helped with a few large render projects. For me it's a decision whether to go for a faster high quality render (using full resources) or setting it to lower priority. Lower priority is obviously longer, but allows nearly normal multitasking. Higher priority will release resources quicker, but again, obviously it makes multitasking, (other than simple browsing the web) nearly impossible. I know the solutions like using 2 cores instead of all four, and setting priorities. So it's just what a person is willing to put up with... As I was saying with this particular image, 4 to 6 hour renders for each different texture map is something I could do if I was willing to... but I'm not!

A crowdsourcing rendering platform for big projects would be great! A giant 3D printer too
Great job

So true, thanks! I got to thinking too, If I had saved the m3i file, I could change the light map and only have to recalculate the reflections with each different map. Would only be about an hour each for that. I rarely save the m3i unless I know ahead of time that I may tweak lighting, colors etc...

Ouch, that's too bad. It' definitely a must for long renderings!
Right now I use those saves but I have to delete them regularly, they take too much space.
