Alrighty. Here is Nathaniel the magician and his [un]trusty demon Bartimaeus. They're from the Bartimaeus trilogy (go figure), and this particular pic is from the second book: The Golem's Eye. Nathaniel is 14 I believe...He wears a long trenchcoat for the billowy-cool effect and a tight black suit that he thinks makes him look very posh indeed (and Bartimaeus takes great pains to assure him it does not). Bartimaeus can take many forms, but he prefers young Ptolemy (one of his former masters). He is really sarcastic and funny - Go read the books! I'm thinking of doing a comic of one of the scenes in the book...Edit: Haha! Silly me...I forgot to mention that the books are by Jonathan Stroud (I think I spelled that right...) and them, the characters, and ideas belong to him. Not me. This one pic is mine. Not the characters or story. We clear? Good.

Lovely picture, but wasn't Ptolemy 14 when Barimaeus met him, so technically wouldn't they be about the same height?

Ha ha, this is great. I love the way the two of them are drawn, especially Nathaniel and his swishy coat. XD I imagined Barimaeus' Ptolemy form as being a tiny bit older, but he looks cool here nevertheless. Nice job!

Awesome-- Nat looks just as I pictured him! And oh, I always imagined Bartimaeus/Ptolemy as 14-15ish (didn't it say somewhere that Bartimaeus knew Ptolemy best at 14?) but I like the younger look!

like, he's excellent exactly as i woulda pictured ptolemy himself (not the fandom made, overly sexy modern barty version (when barty actually coied him dead on himself)) no joke. But if u just made him taller and bigger a bit... perfecto.

I love Nathaniel - sorry, John Mandrake, excuse me - in this picture. He really has that I'm-just-a-kid-but-I-can-still-be-a-stuck-up-loser look down, standing there like he's all important. Dramatic coat billowing FOR THE WIN.
Bartimaeus is weirdly short, assuming that's his Ptolemy form, but his expression is perfect. (Ooh, and are those the flight goggles he was planning to wear on the plane ride earlier? Or am I just reading things into innocent glasses?

Kyuuu!! You drew Nat's clothes well!! >w< The only thing I think is out of sorts it that Bartimaeus looks pretty short.. Prolemy was about 14 when Bart knew him best, but even still, its really great, and it looks alot how I would imagine them. >w<

And I seem to have this fixation with Bartimaeus dressed as Ptolemy...
And on the question of Ptolemy's age, I'm about half-way through Ptolemy's Gate, and just for the handy trivianess of it all, Bartimaeus states somewhere that he was 14. I think in the first book it made a mention of him taking on the guise of an Egyptian boy somewhere around Nathaniel's own age, but maybe not. o.O Anyway, loves the pic. *favs*

Thanks! Yes, Ptolemy-ized Bartimaeus is happy indeed. I've been reading Ptolemy's Gate and it mentioned he was 12, but I'm not even 200 pages in...so that probably changes.
