Description

Hey? Remind me never to do an art-based city again
It could stand to be artsy-er, but I am Deceased

  • Overview: Artisan City is the largest known Snakekey settlement, giving it a large population of artists and magic users. It was built long ago on forest land being ravaged by a disease killing off all plant life. The members of the then-tiny town were able to band together and stop the disease from spreading past the edges of the valley. The walls enclose the heart of the forest that remained and many of the buildings were built from the wood of the fallen trees. The ground around the city is grassy and spotted with small clusters of short trees. To the east, there's a large lake fed by a northern river. Commonly thought of as the center of trade, Artisan City is a friendly place open to visitors
  • 1: City hall: A legal building where decisions are made and official stuff is done. It's well known for the magically pumped pond on its roof that feeds a creek that sprawls through the residential area of the city
  • 2: Honeysky Hatchery: The hatchery holds unwanted eggs, takes in young Snakekeys, and triples as an adoption center. Most of their eggs are kept in small box-shaped nests in a heated room, kept comfortable, but unhatched until they can be taken in by adoptive parents. Also has a small egg pond that can be used to hatch eggs, owned by the hatchery or otherwise
       NPC: Stub , Rumi
  • 3: Mall: Built under the largest tree from the original forest, although the poor old tree has mostly toppled over. The mall is so big, as it was intended to support the tree while also being a functioning building. More permanent shop owners commonly take up residence inside and sell their wares there
  • 4: Library: A cozy, yet dimly lit building shaped kinda like a book. Includes a hallway that leads to an additional room full of windows and window seats, which is a favorite of many. The library has almost too many books and is always resorting its shelves to try and get rid of the towering stacks of reading material piled on the floor (to no avail)
       NPC: Barley
  • 5: Star vault: Basically-bank. A good-sized building covered in rose-like flowers that keeps paper stars safe for their owners. Will also convert large amounts of regular stars into golden paper stars and vise versa
       NPC: Missi
  • 6: Healers' building: A collection of buildings that serve as a hospital and pharmacy alike. Although there are plenty of rooms for ill keke to stay, most of the space is dedicated to medicine-making and holding cures
  • 7: Apprenticeship Academy: Better known as the "College of Whatever", as nicknamed by a more recent owner. Mysterious looking building with multiple stories, a basement, and an attached tower for what must be assumed is dramatic effect. Decorated with glowing markings that mostly look like flames or runes. This building is a school for magic users, though 'graduating' always seems to take a really long time... What's going on in there...?
       NPC: Remmy
  • 8: Guardian ShelterThe base of operations for Snakekeys ready to go into action in case of emergency. Jobs could include dealing with theft, putting out fires, stopping fights, or chasing off predatory species. There are two major shelters in the city - one by the gate and one towards the center of the city
       NPC: Bones
  • 9: Theater: A large building with a mostly open roof (it has cover options in case of rain), rows of seating, bright spotlights, and a big stage. The fancier type of entertainment can be seen here, as such a venue isn't too easy for a brand new performer to get into
  • 10: Marketplace: Includes both and open market and shops within buildings. The marketplace is always bustling and sports a huge variety of goods from all kinds of artists and workers around the city. The shop buildings were all built similarly with the intention of holding several stores. They can be rented out by merchants and temporarily customized while they're there
  • 11: Animal rescue: A group dedicated to finding and helping local animals that can't help themselves. This includes giving cures to the sick, feeding abandoned young, and (in dire situations), sheltering animals within the city to be released if/when they're better
       NPC: Jambalaya
  • 12: Blacksmith: A rare commodity. The blacksmith is able to easily harvest metals and shape them into items by using combined magic. They live in a humble building interwoven with yellow flowers
  • 13: Museum of History: This building documents achievements and advancements made by Snakekey kind. The cost to get in is exceptionally low and hatchling-young get in free. Dabbles into topics such as the stopping of the disease that founded the city, inventions, and remnants of a forgotten past. Decorated with two large keke statues, lovingly referred two as Pep (grey) and Hiss (white)
  • 14: Art gallery: A huge building that shows off recent work made by the locals. It's covered in an avalanche of multicolored rocks and the inside is majorly cave themed
  • 15: Rec center: A communal building where events can be hosted or set up, games can be played, groups can meet up, etc, etc... Similar to the city hall, it's roof holds a small pond, however this one forms a whirlpool. The water from this runs down the sides of the building and forms a shallow moat. It's powered in part by the nearby water park
       NPC: Hattie
  • 16: Museum of Magic: A museum that documents Snakekeys' discovery and gradual use of magic. Includes topics such as found magical items, a collection of combined magic, and mentions of the most impressive feats preformed with the use of magic
  • 17: Water park: A special fake beach/pool that features fountains, some small slides, and a waterfall for keke to slide down. It's majorly powered by magic and as considered a large achievement of the city. While it normally costs a fee to get in, Saturdays are free
  • 18: The Featherlight guild building: The headquarters of a guild pretty into light and magic that can manipulate it. Commonly, they create light shows for the city to enjoy while they develop their practice and study their element. Their affinity for light directs them towards the original source: the celestial bodies out in space
NPCs: Bavis , Marilyn , Andie , Pawel , Moby
  • 19: Power crystals: These mysterious crystals have yet to be found anywhere else on Susie. While working on stopping the disease that was eating up the forest, keke discovered these colorful stones when peeling up the earth to make homes from it. They have a strong, but cryptic energy and are usually lightly glowing, buzzing, or 'singing'. The city has been able to tap into these crystals' power in order to provide things such as modern lighting and high functioning plumbing
  • 20: Harvest land: Fields where crops are grown
  • 21: Homes: Buildings made up of clay, stone, sod, wood, etc, etc... The main residential area is located behind the city hall, but houses are often crammed into leftover nooks and crannies around the walls
  • 22: Cupcake Hotel: A place for travelers to stay during visits to the city. The hotel boasts quite a few rooms as well as a location by the power crystals for the full experience
  • 23: Garden Shed: A large greenhouse that functions as a plant nursery and a center for research of the nearby nature. They hope to one day aid in restoring the valley to its forest state, but this is not their main focus, as it's a very large project. Behind the building within a ring of trees is a carefully tended to park, fountain, paths, and small creek included. Snakekeys are welcome to come and visit, though most visitors come from the nearby schools
  • 24: Pied Schoolhouse: A place where hatchling, young, or generally anyone who needs to can learn the basics about how the world works. This includes learning how to read, write, simple maths, cooking, cleaning, and so on. Most rooms are dedicated to teaching the population, but the school also rents out a few of their extras for locals to teach their own classes on other topics
  • 25: College: School's great and all, but sometimes you want more than the basics before you say, leap into a trade. The college educates on a higher level and teaches more advanced topics. It's by no means required, but the study might be nice for some
  • 26: Archives: A place to hold artistic creations that don't go the the art gallery, homes, or somewhere else. Considering the size of the city, this building is quite large
  • 27: Bird House: A shelter built for birds, bugs, and other small animals. Many more of these shelters used to dot the area when the disease was still active, but most have since fallen into disrepair due to disuse. This last one has been kept upright, partially as a memorial. It is still used by birds and stuff, so be nice
  • 28: Stage: A simple stage surrounded by a few benches. Can be used by performers and may be the location of some events
  • 29: Communal garden: A project amongst keke of all ages around the city. The topic of the garden changes from year to year, with large, healthy plants usually transplanted into their natural habitat or into gardens
  • 30: Jail: Not everybody can be a good bean. Bad beans go in the box to think about what they've done.
  • 31: Railway: A series of sticks that forms a sort of slithering highway. This stretches over much of the residential area and makes for a quick way to get into the main part of the city without dodging yards and properties
  • 32: Remembering Tree: Keke don't exactly have cemeteries and passed keke are dealt with differently from place to place. Snakekeys who have lived in Artisan City are thought to recognize this towering tree in the afterlife and are thus sort of bound to it. They're remembered here
  • 33: Blu Pond: A good sized body of water that nobody can do anything about because of the cranky, cranky birds that live there. At least it's pretty....
  • 34: Thermal Discus playing field: A fenced in field containing six, small goals and a central tree. Thermal Discus isn't actually discus and is just named that as a disk is thrown around, but whatever. The sport is played by two teams with 4 to 6 members each. There will be one warm-blooded team and the other will be cold-blooded (this can vary depended on what the players are. The main rule is both sides need to be a different temperature than the other). The material that makes up the goals is temperature sensitive and will change color depending on which team touches it, making it "theirs" until the other team touches it. A team scores a point when they throw the disk through a goal that they've claimed, though they can also score a point for their opposing team if they hit the wrong goal. Once the game starts, each of the six goals will be their default color. All six can be touched by any member of any team, but once they've been initially affected, each team member can only turn one goal per round. Rounds last 15 minutes and there are typically 3 to a game
  • 35: Gym: A building made up of a whole bunch of glass that contains a whole bunch of exercise equipment. It costs no charge to enter or use said equipment
  • 36: Tracks: A couple of maintained dirt tracks used for races, sprints, and the like
  • 37: Stealthball playing field: A fenced in area containing a dense nature environment with plenty of natural hazards such as ponds and clearings, as well as hiding places such as caves or thickets. Stealthball is usually played by 2 teams of 5 or 7, but can be played by more depending on the size of the field. It begins with each team on opposing far sides of the field and a small, green ball located somewhere in the middle. Once the game begins, each team's goal is to locate the ball and be in possession of it once the 30 minute game ends. Thus, one Snakekey usually ends up slithering for their life or hiding away somewhere with the entirety of the other team searching for them. Keke are not allowed to fight during the game
  • 38: Airport: A sort of dock on stilts that serves as a landing and resting place for "airships". These blimp-like vehicles are powered by heat, rudders, propellers, and a bit of magic, making them a pretty spiffy luxury. They can take keke to other locations, though getting back will be on them, as airports are quite rare. If they're not keen on leaving, the airport also provides a couple tours to entertain the curious
       NPC: Cyra
  • 39: Park: A small park that contains equipment for little keke to play on, such as swings, slides, and sandboxes. This particular park also has an enclosed tunnel system that kids usually love slithering around in
  • 40: Scout towers: Towers posted up on the walls where scouts can watch for any possible approaching hostilities
  • 41: Not-shops: These buildings were created to serve as shops, but most went unused, as they were unneeded. Granted, a few of them have actual stores in them, but most house keke without any other homes or serve as a fun place to explore for young Snakekeys
