From what I've heard, they're mostly inspired by Native Americans (the ones from Canada and Alaska mostly, including Inuits and MΓ©tis. Sokka's boomerang for example, is pretty MΓ©tis-like and characters like Tarrlok, Unalaq, Senna, Kya, Kuruk and Hotah look rather Kainai. Korra, Katara, Sokka, Tonraq and Hakoda look pretty Cree and Yue, Kanna, Hama, Arnook, Eska, Desna, Bato and Varrick look pretty Inuit). Heck, there is actually even some Polynesian vibe to the Water Tribes. Especially if you look at their boats and ships. I think it's pretty safe to say that the Water Tribals are pretty much the only western representatives in the franchise. But fans have usually interpreted Water Tribals as predominantly Inuit because the Water Tribes are mostly associated with water, ice and snow (the creators even tried to tone down that conception by introducing the Foggy Swamp Tribe, where people look more southern American-ish).
So the way I've concluded:
Fire Nation: Japanese, Korean, Mongolian and Chinese.
Earth Kingdom: Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese and middle-eastern.
Air Nomads: Tibetan, Nepalese, Bhutanese and Indian.
Water Tribe: Native American and Polynesian.

Really good designs, you did a wonderful job here! My favoirite one is definately Korra.
Is it just me or does Azula's head look a little small? And isn't Azula younger than Asami and Korra? Or did you want to make her the same age on purpouse? Cause she looks like an adult while being 14 (?) in the show.
