Okay this turned out lamer than I thought it would. That's just what happens when I decide things are too boring in the background OTL I haven't done anything traditionally in a while so... ha hahaha. The comics will probably be done digitally when I get around to them, and I WILL get around to them if it kills me (but not if it makes me fail my other classes hahahahaha)

Damn if I could draw folds like the Greeks could sculpt them, I would be so cool.

This is my awesome original character personification thing of Athens. You know the one.

I DO NOT CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT OTL I'VE JUST BEEN RECENTLY RENEWING MY CHILDHOOD INTEREST IN THE ANCIENT WORLD. And making stupid comics for my Classics 110 class.

Appearance

Hair: Dark Brown / Black. Curly (But not Grandpa Rome-curly). Short (chin-length?).
Eyes: Dark Brown / Black Actually, to make him a little bit more like Athena, his eyes are really really dark grey.
Face: Thinner and pointier than Sparta's
Nose: Round-ish. It looks almost broken. He's kind of embarrassed about it and prefers to depict himself with a perfectly straight nose.
Height: Shorter than Sparta, taller than Mama Greece
Clothing: Usually wears a chiton, sandals, and a himation if he feels like it. He's fond of things in bright colours like red, green, purple, yellow, etc. He likes extravagant and fashionable clothes sometimes, but at times he also doesn't mind walking around naked when it's too hot and he's training for the Olympics. Ancient Greece wasn't that self conscious.
Other: Over time, Athens grows his beard to match his ego. Sometimes beards go out of fashion though, so he ditches it.

Personality

If you think of Athens as some sort of shy, weak, shut-in intellectual type, think again.
It is said that Athena and Poseidon spoiled Athens with gifts in order to win his attention, which might explain why he's such a jerk. Of course, it's obvious Athena won. XD;
Athens started out as a sort of shy and meek little guy who would ask Sparta for help whenever he pissed someone off. When Sparta would refuse to help (at least until it was too late) Athens had to start winning his own battles. Of course, this gave him a hell of an ego boost and he has become incredibly full of himself. He went super imperialistic on the rest of Greece when he got rich and started to build a ridiculously huge navy. His ego is always getting him into trouble with other city-states.

He thinks he is the wittiest person on the planet, as well as the most culturally superior. He's spawned a lot of the great philosophers, play writes, athletes, and artisans of his time (but he didn't like those scientists and revolutionary thinkers as much as you might think.) He's a bit xenophobic of non-Greek speakers (Barbarians!) and his worst nightmare is to be ruled by tyrants.
Oh, and he invented democracy and was the original Renaissance man before Renaissance was even a word.

Like most Ancient Greeks, he's obsessed with his health.

In his spare time he enjoys attending plays or orations, asking Athena for things, and praising himself for being so awesome.

Relationships

Sparta: "He's so cool for having such a harsh lifestyle... but he doesn't have the intellectual capacity for me to spend much time associating with him."

Ionia: "MY BABY GIRL. ILU."

Thebes: "Boeotian pig. You are such a n00b."

Corinth: "Why do you hate me so much anyway?!"

Argos: "YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING EVER. GET A JOB."

Persia: "FJATGSEIJKSJLIjeosgltjesghewiztTJESRHGRJH I HATE YOU"

Mama Greece: "You should come live with me! (B We'd make a great team, who-ever-you-are!"

Macedon: "Hahaha, what a great guy idiot barbarian doesn't even dilute his wine, the drunkard. Thinks he's GREEK, the nerve! Can't even speak it!"

Alexandria: "Oh, aren't you just adorable, thinking you know things about stuff- HEY! WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ALL OF MY BOOKS?!"

Rome: "Damn, he isn't as nice as I thought he was..."

His owl is named 'Glaukos' which literally means 'glaring eyes'. It is often thought to be the name of Athena's owl.
He also has owls on his currency, which of course are commonly called 'owls', like Canadian loonies. Glaukos sometimes sits on Athens' shoulder when he feels like it, but most of the time he's too busy sleeping to do anything. XD; He's a Little Owl or 'Athene Noctua' in Latin.

Athens today is a grumpy old man who's too proud of himself to modernize too much and muses a lot about 'the good old days' before Mama Greece's good-for-nothing-son showed up. He tries to be hip every so often though. I hear he's quite fond of facebook and texting, but I really know nothing about modern!Athens other than what I hear on the news about debt crises and such. I'm not gonna even try and think about modern!Athens yet *wallows in ancient history* but I have an idea that he is still the same personification as he was in ancient times... just old and angry and much less handsome. XD
