Description

Even back then this seemed a bit unusual.  I could understand a multi use fountain for pets, but a communial drinking fountain was quite out of the ordinary to me.  The construction seemed quite permanent, not made just for the traveling carnival.

Taken with a Zeiss Contarex with 55mm F1.4 Planar on Ilford FP4 135mm panchromatic film in 1971.

Have you noticed the fountain is flowing without holding a handle.  This was well before automatic sensors. It must have been on continuously, while the one to the right had a twist valve.  Part of my series in my gallery under "Carnival time."

Love these older shots! Keeps me inspired to keep my old Leica with me loaded with film at all times, regardless of all the modern cameras with all their bells and whistles.

interesting thing.  when I got my Leica camera out with the manual, fixed length lenses, I had a re-learning curve to get back into controlled photography, including walking in and out of the frame to maximize the lens characteristics.  you become a better artist for it.

Actually the multi use water dispenser was quite common is parts of the country and some were left running to ensure fresh water. Ah , the good ol' daze... probably lead pipes!
