Recommended Allied engineering color set
- plastic blue
- industrial metallic gray
- hard hat yellow
Oh, wait, that sounds just like Team Fortress 2!

HEhe- pretty much. But let's face it, when you have color-team factions with multiple classes including engineers, that's pretty much the way to depict them (and strongly set them apart from the other soldiers).
Team Fortress 2 actually does this perfectly. I learned from them things like silhuettes and broader shapes and color combinations are important elements of differentiation!

Oh, no, I don't hate Team Fortress 2 color sets. In fact, Valve's color choice is indeed a good example, as you say, for element recognition.

Definitely! Another thing I picked up from them is to even apply different hues to similarly-colored stuff. So colors like Grey, green and Yellow will be for the Allies- blue-grey, leaf-green and lemon-yellow; and for the Soviets, earthy-grey, lime green, and sunset yellow.
Best of all, this potentially allows me to take corresponding units, apply 'similar' or 'comparable' colors for either unit- but sticking to their hues instantly subdivides them by both unit-type AND Allied/Soviet.
