I never understood this either. I think they're referring to the people that live in the boondocks away from the city that own farms/ranches. There are still people like that (they're scattered around Texas but most of the Texan population live in the big cities in the eastern side of Texas and for hte most part they're immigrants and definitely not cowboys. I myself come from immigrant families on both sides so it's not really a thing with us....except my mom. She's a Filipina born in the Philippines that moved to the US with my grandparents when she was 5 but she tries to hard too act like a white redneck (like she's trying to hard to be White...or that she actually wishes she was White). It's just.....embarrassing.

That stereotype always amused me, especially since the part of Texas I lived in was pretty damn urban. A few farms here and there, the occasional man wearing a Stetson in a grocery store, nothing really any more 'western'.

Ugh when I'm in Mississippi or somewhere and I tell someone I'm from Texas they always say something like "oh you must be very western" and "Are you a cowgirl?" Β
