Alayna's turn was closing in fast as the breezy night grew darker and darker. Stars began to twinkle in a sky the color of deep, calm ocean water, awakening from their recent slumber. Joining them were sunset colored lanterns, raised up into the air and drifting upon the gentle wind currents that rustled the pines surrounding the still lake. The small woman breathed in the fresh air as she stroked her mount's dappled shoulder. Valor's noble head turned to regard his rider, one ear pricked towards her, the other swiveling to catch the sounds of the night and the other anxious competitors preparing for their routines.

She had never heard the likes of it before; a dressage routine performed at night, surrounded by floating lanterns. To be honest, she wasn't sure how some of the horses would take to the notion of mysteriously floating lights. A few of them were already shimmering with a thin film of nervous sweat, but luckily the big Andalusian stud next to her simply stood, twitching his lip from side to side to pass the time. His large, dark eyes looked at her, the reflections of the glowing lights all around them shinning in their depths. She smiled and stroked her fingers through his thick forelock as she heard the announcement that they were up next.

"Looks like it's time big guy. Ready to knock out the competition?" She inquired in her normal cocky manner. The stallion almost seemed to pick up on the mood, swishing his long tail once before looking ahead at the arena where the pair inside were just finishing their routine. The crowd applauded as she boosted up into the saddle, adjusting her reins.

Soon that applause would be for them.
