Lillian had been working with the huge behemoth of a stallion on his ground manners for the upcoming show at Day Break Valley for a while now. At first, he was a complete and utter mess, dancing to the side, calling out to mares and roaring challenges at other stallions. He even managed to step on her toes a few times, one of which she was pretty sure he broke.

Rome was never going to be perfect on the ground, she had come to accept it due to his attitude combined with the fact that he was a stallion, and he took it upon himself to let everyone know it. She had, however, trained him to square up and stand nicely to a degree. He still tended to shift his weight around, and his eyes were constantly looking at anything but her. Something she never could fix were his ears. They were forever tilted back towards his neck in an aggressive fashion, and try as she might, there seemed to be nothing she could do to convince him to bring them up. She would wiggle her fingers in the air at the tip of the nose, and he would ignore her, she'd offer him treats and he'd snatch them before she could do anything about it, sometimes almost taking a finger or two with him.

Now they stood in the ring for the stance portion of the show.
"Alright, Rome, you're going to have to remember what I've tried so hard to teach you the last few months. Ok?" Lillian asked looking into his eyes in an almost pleading fashion.
The stallion just looked back at her with his ears folded back. Not particularly angry with her, but probably with the other stallions in the area. Lillian sighed and tugged on his lead to square him up. Glancing back up at him after checking that his legs were squared she was amazed at the sight before her. Rome's ears were perked straight up!
"What in the world...?" Lillian began as she glanced around to see what the stallion was so enthralled in as to bring his always angry ears up. Looking straight behind her she couldn't help but chuckle, Rome had fixed his attention on a lovely little Arabian filly who's coat was just as dappled as his. The grey filly was just beyond the fence, but luckily Rome didn't make to go for her, he just stood completely still and stared at her, acting like a gentleman for once in his life. Turning back around Lillian heard the call that her class had started and silently she prayed that Rome's attention would be held on the mare through the entire class.
