What type of metal makes up the hull of the elemental anyway?

Additionally, the armor has a damage capacity equivalent to 50 tons of TNT.

Elementals use Ferro-Fibrous armor which utilizes a weave of ferro-steel, ferro-titanium, and diamond weave fibers.

It provides more protection than standard armor from the setting which is;

Standard armor, which is ablative in nature, is composed of several layers providing various degrees of protection and support. The first layer is extremely strong Titanium alloyed with steel, the result of crystal alignment and radiation treatment, which is also very brittle. The second layer is a ceramic, cubic boron nitrite, which combined with a web of artificial diamond fibers acts as a backstop to the steel layer. These two layers rest atop a titanium alloy honeycomb structure which provides support, and a layer of self-sealing polymer sealant which allows for space and underwater operations.

Elementals as I recall have firepower that's close to a Dreadnaught with the mobility of an assault marine. I'm favoring the Elemental but the experience of the Templar could help him come out on top.

Since I've played both, I see the merits of both systems.  Admittedly, it gets very interesting when you use crossover rules to put both on the same board.

What's a Jade Falcon Elemental?

Hazard-Trooper In reply to sciencevsart [2015-02-27 19:00:15 +0000 UTC]

An Elemental is a battle armor designed to assault mechs. Jade Falcon is the clan this particular armor belongs to.

This whole thing reminds me of a particular passage from the Horus Heresy book series in which a group of non compliant humans went against the Luna Wolves . They had lots of men , they had courage , they had good weapons , they were very well led , they were defending a heavily fortified zone . . . . . .  They ....... Had no chance !

On an initial look one might think that the Elemental would kill the Space Marine no problem . This might happen , after all the elementals were designed to take on mechs ( in groups obviously ) so they should have no trouble killing a space marine . We must also consider that the elemental pilot is highly trained warrior from a warlike culture equipped in some cases with cybernetic implants that enhance combat ability . This being said . . . . The elemental will die !

Here is why :

1 . Fanboy-ism : " How dare you question the Emperor's Finest , the Space Marines ?! " A space marine can just scowl really hard and bring a human to his knees with Trans- Human Dread .
2 . An elemental is a superior warrior gene bred for war . . . . . . . . however he is but a man ! An Astarte is a trans-human killing machine with ( sometimes ) centuries of experience .
3 . Astartes have managed to take on Tau battle suits / arguably far more fearsome then an elemental . . . Example : Audio Drama = Brethren by Phil Kelly ( Black Library )
4 . Build in Redundancy . Even with a first strike by the Elemental the Space Marine might survive long enough with half his chest missing to still kill : Two hearts for fuck's sake ! ! ! And they beat for the Emperor !
5 . A Space Marine is a Rape Train . . . . . And it has no Brakes !

Hazard-Trooper In reply to BattleHamsterReturns [2015-01-09 21:30:20 +0000 UTC]

Yes there are indeed many stories of space marines doing insane deeds; single squads taking over planets, slaying old gods, grey knights dying to medieval swordsmen. Space Marines are like Superman, they're as powerful as the story needs them to be. I prefer the middle ground approach. After all for every Space Marine that single handedly took down a battlebarge there are numerous others that die like everyone else.

A Space Marine is still a very intimidating opponent. There are many instances where a Space Marine would win hands down. Close quarters combat for instance would be the bane of an Elemental, where as long range combat would favor the Elemental, but here's why I think the Elemental could win.

1) Mobility. The Elemental's jump jets give it mobility that only an assault marine would enjoy. The ability to surround an enemy is what allows an Elemental to be effective.

2) Weapon loadout. Elementals carry a small variety of arms for dealing with multiple scenarios.  The missiles and small laser can damage armor, the anti-personnel weapon is obvious (but would not have the power to damage a space marine).

All in all it's fairly open to interpretation. Then again GW says that Black library publications may or may not be Imperial propaganda so... it's hard to get a pin down on them.

Thank you for your contribution Comrade.

BattleHamsterReturns In reply to Hazard-Trooper [2015-01-10 11:22:15 +0000 UTC]

Of course all is open to interpretation , they are after all fictional characters . The elemental could win in a fair number of scenarios . I do not believe however that the elementals / clan troops  could win a large scale confrontations with Astartes . Individual battles : sure , they will win those and kill the occasional marine squad . Large scale war ? no dice .

During the Great Crusade the Astartes encountered many human cultures of fantastically advanced tech / science ( left over from the Dark Age of Technology ) and conquered all of them . Even in the 41 st millennium the Astartes face foes of staggering technologically advanced tech like the Necrons and still can hold there own . All these foes are greater in numbers and tech then what the Battletech universe can throw at them and still the Astartes endure !

Mobility and Weapon Loadout : Sure the elemental is mobile , can jump and relocate , reposition and sworm , however this is nothing new for the Astartes . Remember they face the likes of Eldar ( of all types ) whom can jump in parallel dimensions , relocate and strike again , whom move with preternatural speed and precision . Consider the Dark Eldar , consider their speed and agility , if astartes can and do kill the filth of Commoragh , cant they kill mobile elementals ? I think they can . The White Scars welcome anyone to a contest of speed and mobility .
As for weapon loadout : power weapons that can damage tanks would kill an elemental . For longer ranges : graviton / plasma / laser guns and cannons and even the ubiquitous krak grenades would still bring more dakka then an elemental . What is that ? Cyclone missiles ? Sure why not

You mentioned superman . Ok . What do you think the primarchs are if not supermen ? Is there anything in BT that can take on Leman Russ ? Sure the clans are cool in BT , take clan Wolf , do you think it would stand any chance against the Vilka Fenrica ? No contest . Superman is not saving shit in 40 k , he would be burned as a which , Batman ? Kurze would eat his liver .

GW is covering their asses saying that Black Library may or may not be imperial Propaganda . It is complete and utter nonsense , they work hand in hand . How can it be imperial propaganda to portray in favorable light the numerous foes of the Imperium ? See the latest example with Failbaddon being remade to be all cool and shit or the older iteration of the Necrons being remade to be less murderous and have more character . What GW does is leave openings for themselves to rewrite stuff , trouble is they rewrite it for the worst : example - first Olanius Pius was just a guardsman now he is immortal and shit . Sure why not ?! They cover their asses so they can write more shit later .

Alright , alright , all that is fine and well but to return to the original point : an Elemental is a superbly bread and trained human being . . . . but like a said last time : great men but only men !

PS : I like to see Devlin Stone from BT as an incarnation of the Emperor . Would it not be cool if the BT was a prequel to 40 K ? Sure we had mechs and FTR travel and communication that does not involve going through a literal hell but we lost all those in the fires of Old Night . So much was lost never to be re-learned . Now we have Spess Mahrinesss  ! And they shall know no Fear !
