In spite of the time it took me to comment on this piece I must admit I genuinely consider this painting to be one of the most heartfelt and soft pieces in your gallery Technically speaking, it is stunning as well, and makes for a lovely visual image: The perspective is nicely executed, and boy, do I love that background! The colors and strokes blend nicely, and although they are faintly muted, they still showcase light and warmth as if sunlight is reflecting onto them even if it is a cloudy, typically-scandinavian day. The way you managed to shade Eyolf's white tunic is nothing short of impressive, and I just love Yngvar's tunic as well - the red stands out nicely, and I enjoy how you were able to convey such a sense of detail without actually going into details too much. In doing this, you created a wholesome picture that is pleasant to look at as a whole, as an illustration that is easy on the eye both from up-close as well as further away.
Now, as for the poses and the story - I think this piece truly made me fall for Eyolf I already tripped over Yngvar two years ago, and I'm still on the ground, staring up at him . His flamboyant, diva-like personality (I can no longer call it an act at this point ) shows in both his pose as well as his words, and it is clear that he values himself highly. And that's what I like about him - he's himself, unabashedly, without any pretense (oh, the irony of this statement). I like how much he seems like a walking paradox, in a way: genuine but false, a public figure but secretive, open and warm but only to a certain extend, harmless but dangerous nonetheless...
- anyways, this piece seems to showcase something more genuine. Maybe it's the fact he's letting Yngvar play his barber. Maybe it's the fact Yngvar let himself be persuaded. Maybe it's the fact that he almost makes Yngvar seem at peace for once. Maybe it's the fact they both seem at peace with one another. I never guessed you'd be able to do it, but you made Yngvar seem delicate and even careful - no dangerous grace, but actual delicacy. It's such an intimate scene - nothing sexual, but intimate anyways. (And then there's the prose paragraph in the description - oh man, did I laugh aloud sometimes! )
Lovely work!

Thank you so very much for the amazing comment! I was hooked and delighted to read your wonderful words, while your insight in interpreting this piece truly made my day
I'm glad you appreciate the visuals of this. I must admit it was a difficult piece because of the full-body poses and my inexperience with acrylics (they are thick and dry so fast, which makes it tricky to work with them, no matter how much I like the end results) and because I chose a paper that proved too small for the subject matter (A4).
You are spot on in interpreting their personality, their relationship, their power play and their feelings towards each other!!! I absolutely mind-blown by how you described Eyolf as a paradox - this is exactly what Yngvar says about him in the story Also: "Maybe it's the fact he's letting Yngvar play his barber. Maybe it's the fact Yngvar let himself be persuaded" --> this is absolutely brilliant! it's just what I am trying to render in their interactions, and what this piece is actually about! They are always self-conscious in their interactions, since they are both men who don't lose themselves to feelings or impulses, but rather calculate their every move (Eyolf less obviously, but just as much as Yngvar deep down). So, as you said, this here is one of their most peaceful moments where they allow themselves to honestly connect with someone else.

Oho, this caught my eye, especially because the shades and styles are awesome! Also that you mentioned that this is made from acrylic paint makes me wondering how you managed to create this scene.
Anyways, I'd like to say that it is a great work with amazing depiction and details! I really admire your effort and attention put into this one!

Thank you so much for the beautiful words! I enjoy working in acrylics, even though it's the most time consuming from the mediums I've tried so far, so there will be more of this ^^

woah woah woah woah hold up there. Not only did he make Yngvar smile, but Yngvar gives him a compliment and does his hair for him? Wtf?! I think the world just broke! Honestly, when I saw the picture and read this, right up until he actually named Yngvar I was like - no way that's Yngvar. Got to be someone else. I'm going to go reconsider my entire worldview now.
In all seriousness, this really does show a lot. Everything from their poses, Yngvar's uncharacteristic gentleness, little details like the fact that he cared to stop the blood drop before it reached Eyolf's robe, the fact that he replies so much, saying things without a practical need, the smile, everything, it completely throws the Yngvar-archetype into chaos. Not to mention that Eyolf just casually calls him "love" lol. Or maybe he calls everyone that, but Yngvar seems the type who would be uncomfortable with it.
All in all, a wonderful piece and story snippet, amazing colours, amazing background, and very revealing about the characters. I love it!

HAHAHA Glad it's unexpected Thank you for the awesome comment and for noticing and pointing out all those details!
Yngvar probably stops the drop because he's a neat guy and seeing a pointless drop of blood on a white dress robe would trigger his OCD xD But he surely wouldn't do that for anybody else, so it's still meaningful. Haha yes, Eyolf does call everybody "love", "gem" and stuff, but I think it's the first time he calls Yngvar that (Yngvar gives that unapproachable impression even to someone as open as Eyolf, but now they know each other well enough). Though I'm pretty sure, as "lovable" as he is, no one has ever called Yngvar that, not even casually That includes his own mother xD
It's really a challenge to write him like this and still let him be Yngvar. Anyway, this happens late into the story and they start their relationship on a very different note, so I need to make the transition from that to this in a convincing way. But it's a challenge I'm thoroughly enjoying! ^^ So thank you for checking this out and for enjoying it as well, it's encouraging

Ah, goodness this is absolutely beautiful! I just love the tender, close atmosphere between the two of them. The way you depicted the feeling of a warm summer day and the way Eyolf is sitting is perfect. And your acrylics skill is astounding! I think this is your best piece yet! The textures, the shading! Amazing!!!

I love, love this and how full of himself Eyolf is. xD It's just so charming to me. XD I love how Yngvar is grooming his hair and Eyolf is admiring himself in the mirror. XD You did an excellent job on this! I really love how incredibly well you work with acrylics! I love their clothes, the shading, textures, and the scenery. XD

Very nicely done, bot the story and the work. Your piece really brings out the emotions in the piece, though I admit I thought Eyolf was a cocky SOB, but didn't seem so much in the piece, which is a good thing.
Bravo, very well done.

I'm captivated. It's so well painted. The space, the light, poses - everyting is super refined. And oh, it's so sweet to see these two having good time chatting like ladies do.
