Description The nightjars with their calm, yet melancholic call...

Nightjars are sometimes referred to as 'Goatsuckers', as people used to believe they stole the milk from goats at night. I am quite fond of this myth; it bears an interesting image and is not violent, like most myths.

Beautiful painting and awesome birds. Not easy to see them in nature. They have such a large beak to catch insects in flight.

This has an asian feel to it, like a sumi e painting with the balance and sense of space, of which I find appealing.
Nicely done!!

Thank you so much, you are too kind!

I actually did draw this one indeed with a chinese brush and ink! Yes, and I do experiment with white space at the moment, to explore areas I haven't ventured to yet.

It is interesting to watch though, who, and how many people favourite this kind of drawing. Especially this work (I am very fond of it myself, I think it has turn out not bad at all), while most people seem to prefer the more 'furry' paintings.
I do have an art show coming up, with one of the 'wildlife art' societies I am member of, and I know that I won't sell much, as most people seem to suffer from the 'cute kitten' syndrome. Highly frustrating sometimes.

Asian art has had an influence on my work though it may not have that appearance. I attempted several techniques and styles of Chinese and Japanese brush and ink painting.

I definitely know what you mean by the "cute kitten syndrome". Though I am not trying to create such an image I get a lot of "cute" responses.
Good luck to you with the upcoming show!

I can see the Asian influence in your work, now you mention it! I always admired your shapes and gentle colours.
Aw, thank you so much! I do hope I can sell at least a few prints on the show, to make it worth my time and effort, and have at least some appreciation for my work.

They eat insects on the wing right?

They do indeed. Just like swifts/ swallows/ house martins, only they fly by night.

Lovely details in their feathers. The texture is completely believable and realistic, as are the delicate barred markings.

Really liking this new side of you.
Like the simplicity and sparseness of these pieces.
Lots of empty space for the mind to wander about in.

Thank you very much. Let's see how long this phase will last! I miss the challenge though to be as close to the photo as possible, but that is just me being competitive... >.<

I have an art fair coming up on the 12th of September, the only one I take part this year. Unfortunately, I have not many new pieces to show, as I was completely busy with my graphic design business all year. I really don't like any of my old works any more, and it is quite embarrassing to turn up with the same old prints as last year, so I have set myself the challenge to produce one piece a day until then. Even if it is only a sketch. Let's see if I can manage that. It will be hard, sometimes nothing will turn out right, especially under pressure...

You take your average piece of coal and expose it to extreme pressure - you get a diamond.
My money's on you, woman.
