Easter Ribbon or Garter Snake ( I do not know the difference and we have both around here )I was like 1 ft away from it and aye me I did not jump or scream ! For *Kelly63 because she is such a snake chicken as well. !

Believe me I used to shoot other things at them, but now I am much more calmer if I see them in time and they can not freak me out !

Well done! My problem isn't so much that I'm terrified of snakes (I'm actually not), but if I'm too close to one I don't know whether or not its poisonous - another of those subjects (like bees, wasps and hovers) that I need to learn about I guess. The main three I know of over here are adders and vipers (both poisonous) and grass snakes which are benign.

Garter snakes as far as I know will not hurt you, but look them up anyway, I am talking about Australia. In Australia, we have the highest amount in the world of the most deadilest insects and reptiles. So instead of fear, I use knowledge and respect. Its like "Hallo Brown snake, yes this is your backyard I am going the other direction!" I am not scared of snakes, I will touch one if a safe one was offered. Great photo!

If I'm not mistaken, that's an Eastern Garter Snake, which is also known as a Ribbon Snake. I had one as a pet for a while when I was younger.

Yes I was told its a garter, there is a difference between garters and ribbons, but I could never tell. I am glad you like it

yeah I went to see a rehaber a few weeks ago and they showed me all the local snakes ( talk about therapy ) they look so similar !

They sure do. I live in Colorado, on the western side of the Rocky Mountains. Most of what we see here are rattlesnakes.

Last year my cat caught a gardener snake in our yard and I kept it for a week it was so cute! ^^ I had to let him go though
