An iconic villain not just in video games, but in fiction as a whole, the One-Winged Angel doesn't need an introduction, but I'll provide one anyway. Sephiroth is a being born from what is known as the "Jenova Project", an experiment designed to create an unstoppable warrior. The aforementioned Jenova, an extraterrestrial being, had its DNA injected into Sephiroth's impregnated mother, Lucrecia, before birth. When he was born, his mother never got any time with him as he was immediately taken by Shinra scientists for further research, so Sephiroth lived almost 30 years with the belief that Jenova was his actual mother. Like his former comrade, Cloud, Sephiroth used to be a 1st class SOLDIER unit - arguably the best, and even working alongside Cloud, but an unfortunate revelation ends up leading Sephiroth down a dark path. Back at his homeland of Nibelheim, he investigated a mako reactor and stumbled across several chambers - one of which holding the alien Jenova, whom Sephiroth called "mother". After this interaction, he spent several restless days skimming through research notes, and he eventually learned his true origin, and the once level-headed SOLDIER was driven to madness, becoming a vengeful murderer, burning Nibelheim to the ground and killing many townspeople. To this day, he torments Cloud and all who dare oppose his plans to reclaim the planet in the name of his "mother" and head to the "promised land".

Sephiroth's combat prowess is nearly unparalleled - he is a masterful swordsman, with his weapon of choice being his enormous Masamune blade, which measures around 1.5 times as long as he is tall. He can swing this monstrous weapon at blinding speeds, and by combining this great speed with his incredible mobility, he becomes almost unstoppable - it doesn't matter how much you keep your distance - that blade WILL find its target. The most devastating blade technique in his arsenal is known as Octaslash - a rapid barrage of eight slashes from his sword - if you're caught with this attack, you're as good as gone. As if that wasn't enough, he's also capable of flight, even without the use of his signature single wing. He also has access to many forms of magic through the use of Materia and other means - his magic attacks include several variations of Flare, including his signature Shadow Flare, which orbits around the opponent before detonating. He also has access to a technique called Heartless Angel, which is capable of depleting all of the opponents life force in the blink of an eye. His most notorious magic attack by far is Supernova, which sees Sephiroth summon a giant star which collides with and destroys several planets on its path to the opposition - this attack also triggers random status effects on everyone it hits.

Sephiroth has appeared as a superboss in both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, as well as appearing as a playable DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - no matter the environment, taking on the One-Winged Angel is always a test of patience and skill. He usually never uses his full power, as he doesn't take a lot of fights seriously, but don't let that fool you - he doesn't need to be anywhere near 100% to end your existence at a moment's notice, and whenever you take him on, a Latin choir will chant his name as he tears you apart.
