Description
The winter of 1897 was a time of terror in New Orleans. For more than a week the poor section of the city was plagued by a series of late night attacks by a devil that left a string of strangely mutilated victims who were completely drained of blood, save a few odd spatters on floor and wall. At least one neighbor mentioned strange laughter or 'giggling' sounds, followed by screams at around the time of one of the murders. The more superstitious blamed the deaths on a Vampire or demon, and turned to the church for protection.
Although not officially sanctioned by the church, a fair number of Vampire Protection Kits were distributed in the local Parish's.
The deaths continued for over a week, claiming about a dozen victims before coming to an end. The case was officially never solved.
Although considered a classic case of Vampirism by many, scholars at Miskatonic take note of of the similarities between these deaths, and other unexplained attacks through the centuries. Usually centered around the reading of certain rituals contained within the pages of in Ludvig Prinn's De Vermis Mysteriis.
