Hey guys! Here's something I've had alot of requests for for a long while. This is a step-by-step for the character rendering style I do in the pages of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe every month! I've been meaning to put this together for ages and finally had a window thanks to the production schedule for the Sonic/Mega Man crossover.I hope this is useful or at least sheds some light on the process for ya'!
Also, I have a PSD of this lone panel with each of these steps separated onto its own layer. If someone can suggest a way to host that and link it here for download, I'd be happy to share that, too.

I don't know that much about digital art and stuff like that but what does the flat layer mean

It's the layer where he's doing the flats coloring, named so because the colors are flat at that point.

At school, there's this system that blocks out inappropriate content (or what it thinks is inappropriate content) that disables me to go to certain pages. That's DansGuardian.

Good luck! Evan also said it's a good idea to have aΒ Wacom IntSubmit Comment uos Pro drawing tablet. If you've never tried a graphics tablet, try the normal Intuos.

Kinda. It's probably best to just buy the program... but it's super expensive! I would also recommend Paint Tool Sai, you can download it for free on a heap of sites out there, and it's very similar to PS!
