Yep, I don't really have an default alternative for pixel art so PS it is.

Well there are some Freeware out there such as MSPaint but some People are so picky about that. I've heard more Artists bash MSPaint than they do Photoshop. The Freeware I'm familiar with is Graphics Gale and GrafX-2. I think there are others but I can't recall their names at the moment. If you'd like I could send you links to this software.

What Tutorials did you follow if any?

I'm on a Mac so no MSPaint, but I'm sure there are other mac programs out there for pixel art. And yeah, people get funny about programs vs programs sometimes.

I didn't really follow any tutorials myself, I just kind of tinkered with how to do pixel art and tried to figure out what works. There's a wealth of tutorials out there now though, I think. I haven't made any pixel art any in a while though.. Should maybe brush up, lol.

I read about this freeware called Pixen for Macs, not sure if that's what you have or have heard of it.

It's direct from Adobe so I'd be very surprised if there were any viruses. I don't have that version myself, and it's mostly free because of a technicality ( www.techsupportalert.com/conte… ). So, up to you if you want to download it. The tutorial is designed for Adobe though (perhaps parts can be used with other programs).

Thank you very much for all of your very useful information.. I might try and download it, it seems like it would help me. Though from my friends and family, it seems very difficult and the instructions don't seem all that helpful; but then again I have never used it. Thank you once more,

I don't think there's really a set size - some pixel art is tiny and some of it is big. You only need a set canvas size if you're making the pixel art for something specific (like pokemon sprites).
