Description So they have an entire section devoted to traditional printmaking, eh??? Now that's fancy.

Manyhow, this be my very first lithograph evar. Is done on a stone and was just the litho pencils. It turned out OK, but i dun feel bad because it was my first after all. Of course, the actual finished piece has a border, but it didn't look so good scanned. I guess you have to see the yummy edges and things. Anyhow, I cut the border off and this be it.

Nice textures. The water looks a little chunky, though, especially coming out of the spout at the far left. I like the contrast between all the different directional lines in the image.

nah, not at all. ^_^ I have some better lithos if you like. I just haven't scanned em yet because they're so big and I have to tile them. But if you like, I can scan em now and put them up here.

hibbary, do you have one or more (evil) twins who do all the drawings for you? coz it's unbelievable for me, how you do that: producing so many high-quality artwork! i'm so fascinated with your work.

but this one here, wow, it's soo good!
instant

hibbary In reply to rotane [2004-04-07 14:06:18 +0000 UTC]

O.O Well this one I've been sitting on for quite a while. And it took a long time to do. Of course, most of that was preparing the stone and printing it >_< I fear I've no twins to do my work. Although it WOULD be realy really handy! I could have an inking twin and a coloring twin. And then a twin just for fixing mistakes.

This is.... wow, this is great. Can't really say much more than that. It's just very striking.

The textures of the image are quite nice, adding to the effect of the image. The water falling from the spouts is beautiful in the way it creates that dark effect.

Ooh, nifty.. but erm.. what's litho? I mean, like, other than what it acutally is.. lithograph or whatever..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hibbary In reply to aaroc [2004-04-07 14:16:24 +0000 UTC]

it's a type of printmaking you do on a stone (or a photo plate, but I like stone much better-- more traditional) based on the principles of similar attraction between polar and non-polar substances. Soooooooo, you have your stone and you make it all clean of grease and flatten and grain it so it's all nice and smooth and then draw on it with greasy pencils or crayons or a greasy wash. Anything greasy will do, then you go through a series of etches to set it in, then you print and whilst you print you put water on, or your stone would get all covered in printing ink. You see, the etches made it so that the blank stone gets wet and repels the greasing ink, and the lines and whatever else you made role up with the greasy ink. It's a rather complicated process. I always wonder to myself, "who the heck came up with this anyhow!?!?"
