The 3D world is still missing one key factor before I ever find it print worthy, though... Occlusion

Hum - very good point. I have found that to be a "minor" issue on most of my pieces but on some (that have yet to be posted) it's a much bigger issue. The main problem probably arises from the fact that transforms like blurr are what's used to give shapes the appearence of solidity. In essence I think that there are no true solids as there would be in true 3D programs.

No, they're there, but Apo just need code for occlusion written into it. Plus, lets say occlusion comes in the next Apo3D... The one after could then easily have Lighting... and then we have a whole new ballpark... Because all lighting takes is occlusion

Boy that would truly be cool having occlusion and lighting - the level of control would be pretty awesome.

I had notied that as well - I'm sure that there's a name or category of optical illusions that this falls under but I don't knwo what it is.

Thanks very much! It's been a while since I worked this style - maybe time to go back to it for a bit...

You're very welcome! Would you be willing to share the params to this style so I can try it? I'll give you credit for anything I make from it.

Sure - give me a bit of time to find them and get them to you. I unfortunately just had a forced departure from my work late last week (company is on a quick slide into financial trouble) and unfortunately most of my stuff was on the laptop I used for work (a nice MacBook Pro...). I've got all the files backed up - just need to transfer them over and get the right version of Apo loaded on this machine. Do me a favor and drop me a note so that I don't loose track of the request.

Unfortunately I am out of a job. I've got some time to figure out what I want to do and how to do it but not as much as I had hoped. I got your note, thanks - my guess is that I'll get the Apo stuff all sorted out over the course of the next couple of weeks or so. Will let you know.

edit: for example the central gem on this one..
[link]
Is created using an offset bubble and two very light gaussian blurs.. although bubble only works well in some flames.

Very cool - a truly stunning piece! I may need to do some more playing with the L'Ascesa II piece!

Excellent flame.. I prefere the structure and colour scheme of this one for sure. It would be interesting to see what it looks like with an additional bubble over the central blur...

I like this one better. Seems cleaner and more detailed to me...and it kind of reminds me of a trilobite. ^_^
