Description Sharp eyes...
I love the gleam in a raptor's eyes. All birds have a certain clever, fleeting complexity to them, but the hawk and heron and eagle have this spark in their eyes that create the feeling of piercing comprehension. It's kind of intimidating, but also kind of fascinating...

Anywho~

Here's another bird painting! It feels like it's been ages since I did one of these!
This is a hawk (I forget what species...), referenced from an amazing photo taken by a friend of mine. I actually did it as a gift for this person (hopefully they like it! ).

Ah, it feels good to use acrylics again.
Though I still love oils. I just.... they're just so wonderful.

So what do you think? Did you miss the birds?

That sounds likely! Excellent -- I've been trying to get a hold of the friend who took the photo I referenced for months, and he has no idea! Now we both have a good guess!
And thanks so much!!!

Yeaaah, acrylics! I've never tried oils...should I? I heard they're kind of flammable. But then again, are acrylics flammable, too? *eyes whole shoebox of acrylic paint*

I'm always amazed how clean you can make your paintings. Maybe it's just a difference in how we operate, but your lines are always so gorgeous~ I love the details in the feathers and the way you colored the shadows. And omiggaaawwddd that beaaakkk. I always thought it was easy to draw beaks, but after trying to draw a couple birds just yesterday, I pretty much died. Your coloring is amazing

Maybe the only thing that you could change is the eye? I mean, it's pretty good, but maybe you could have added a little more highlight to it. It seems dull compared to the way you colored the rest...

Yay acrylics. I would try oils. If nothing else, they're good for a squee when you come back day after day and find that the paint is still wet. They are flammable, and you have to buy some sort of turpentine or turpenol or similar substance to wash your brushes with, but... they're fun.
Acrylic is flammable...? Yes...?

Aw, thank you~! I told someone else this about the beak: it was a complete accident. I painted it, and it looked all flat and dull like I usually paint them, and then... I leave for the night, come back, and it's all ~woo~ All this contrast and depth that I don't recall painting.

I was actually thinking to myself the other day that the eye needed a little something something. Two dots of white would have fixed it. I can see it~ and the painting is in Virginia, far far away...

That made me laugh a lot more than was strictly necessary. XD Oh bagels. It hurts...

Arrggghhh, then I must save money. I just spent a bunch of money on gesso, gel medium, India ink, and a dip pen. and i apparently need ammonia now because india ink is hard to clean /sob BUT! But I promise to try oils out someday.

If they dry so slowly, though, is it possible in anyway to get them to dry up faster? Knowing they're flammable and all, I don't think taking a hair drier or a heat gun would be advisable to speed up drying time. ;A;

HAPPY ACCIDENTS ARE HAPPY.
I love it when you just randomly slap paint on and it comes out pretty neat. Less work and hassle fff

It comes with audio now!

Birds are awesome!!
Aw, thank you!!!
I always do traditional. Digital and I haven't reached an understanding yet. **tablet laughs at me**

Funny thing about the beak-- I painted it one day and then had to stop, so I set the painting aside. But when I came back the next day it looked totally different, like it is now. I don't know if the colors changed while drying (acrylics do that, darn them), but whatever happened... I can live, I guess.

I can only hope so.

I think I like it better now-- so much more contrast going on. I won't fight the mysterious forces messing with my paint.XD

Aw, thank you so much!!
Getting all the little feathers around the face was a little time-consuming, so I'm glad it looks good.
I figured. XD Ah well.
