Description No, his arm is not broken: some use to dress kimonos like that. It reminds me about samurai warriors.
In my personal version, Tenma comes from a noble Japanese family, so his surname is on his kimono.
Maybe some of his ancestors are also European, becaus his height, his hair and beard and his important nose.

No idea why but I get the vibe he's German-Japanese, considering he's used his "Bewußtsein" theory in Atom the Beginning. We do know O'Shay is Polynesian for sure, but Tenma just gives me that German ancestry vibe.

First of all, sorry for the delay. I have been busy... a lot! ^_^ As you can see, no new drawing posted for a while.

About you theory, maybe he has got some German ancestors in that version of the story; personally, I did not watch a lot about it, as I miss Atom too much. I'd really like to know more about doctor Tenma, as I am very interested in his personality, and in all other versions I saw, he was always a bit too evancescent, or, as in 1980s series, he was totally absent. And I don't really like some of Master Tezuka's original versions, where Umataro Tenma was an alchoolic, clueless and violent husband; it was closer to my idea the version of the 1980s American comics, where he's totally crazy, but we clearly know why, and he's really bad with Astro, but we know the reasons.

Speaking about Ochanomizu (or O'Shea/O'Shay) I don't know anything about his family. I had to search hard to find his first name! Then, his enormous nose can be a clear sign of some non-Japanese relatives. Japanese like to draw Westerns with big noses (some tells that it's related even with the Tengu...).
Tengu were really wise mythological creatures, very proud, not easy to deal with. They're more Tenma than Ochanomizu, but the big noses don't lie.
We also know, in many versions, that Ochanomizu is related with another big nosed genius: doctor Saruta.

However, we don't know. If you are reading "The Beginning", maybe they are giving there a canon to follow. I took a look on some pages; I tried to translate some words, trying not seeing too much scenes with young Umataro almost naked, and I noticed that German word. I did not even translate it yet, but, as you wrote it, I'll try.

So " Bewußtsein " is " Self consciousness ", in Italian " Consapevolezza ".

The device which gave "heart" to AI robots, in the 2003 anime (American dubbing) was "kokoro"; here, in "The Beginning", they choose another language and another specific word, as German words are really precise about some kind of feelings. Some expressions are totally impossible to translate without a couple of words.
Maybe was a tiny hint to Gesicht, the German AI Robot Inspector, that in the 2003 series was Klaus, the AI robot who loved music...
