Note 2: At some point in mid-1938 Mussolini’s ribbon bar for the Medaglia Commemorativa della Guerra Italo-Austriaca 1915-1918 that was originally awarded for less than one year in service was updateded to recognize him has having been involved for four years of participation in the campaigning in 1915, 1916, 1917, and 1918. However his medal was not updated and had no bronze bands with the year written on them added to the ribbon of the medal. It is possible that an argument was made that Mussolini had been on-and-off participating in the campaigning in the war and that his award should be updated.
Note 3: At some point in mid-1938 Mussolini’s ribbon bar for the Croce di Anzianità di Servizio nella Milizia Voluntaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale that was originally awarded in 1933 and updated in 1938 by adding a bronze sword to both the ribbon of the medal and the ribbon bar. Another medal for twenty years of service in the MVSN was created in 1943. However his medal was not updated and had no bronze sword was shown on the ribbon section of the medal.
