Unofficial popular flag of the Bosniak people, first seen in 1990 and in common use in the early 1990s but now is rarely seen.In homage to the Islamic faith of Bosniaks the flag bears traditional Islamic imagery including the Islamic crescent moon and the colour green.
This flag was seen used beginning in 1990, especially by Bosniak supporters of Bosnia's Party of Democratic Action led by Bosnian President Alija Izetbegović following his ascent to power in 1990. Following the adoption of a new Bosnian flag in 1992 replacing the former communist era flag, Bosniaks during the war began to use the Bosnian flag as their national symbol and this flag has rarely been seen since.
