Gen. Alexander Hamilton was born as the illegitimate son of a Scottsman and a divorcee on Nevis Island in the Caribbean - a fact that haunted him his whole life. He immigrated to America after being recognized as a prodigy and attended Kings College (Columbia University today). Hamilton dropped out of college before he was 20 to become a captain of an artillery company (random fact - his company is the only one left from the revolution) before being promoted to Lt. Colonel and serving Gen. George Washington as a member of his staff. After the war he became a lawyer and than the first Secretary of the Treasury under President Washington. During this he did political battle against James Madison and Thomas Jefferson over affairs such as whether or not to help the French in their revolution. Hamilton also went with Washington to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion (he also caused it). Hamilton also had one of the first sex scandals in American history. President John Adams reluctantly promoted Hamilton to Inspector General of the Army during the XYZ affair. He was killed in a famous duel by Aaron Burr.
