Is the ridiculous 8 sitting on top of the Eisenhower? I'd have painted that out too.
I lived in England in the early sixties and on my first birthday there I was given a board game of traveling by rail all over Great Britain. I still have the board and the tiny metal locomotives used as the die pieces. Different colors but all of this type loco.
Brings back wonderful memories.

The 8 isn't on top of Eisenhower, it's on a post denoting the line number.
If the pieces in your game were painted light green (LNER apple green), black (wartime), blue, and dark green (BR brunswick green), then they would be the colours that the A4s were seen wearing at some time or another.

I don't have them available to check them out at this time, but yes, they were that color, but also red, seems to me a tuscan red.

It sounds more likely that there were just standard four colours indluded in the game. Red, yellow, green and blue, or red, green, blue and black.

It really pains me that Dominion of Canada hasn't been properly taken care of, haven't Canadians ever heard of CLEANING THEIR LOCOMOTIVES!? Atleast we Americans know how to keep our engines clean, just look at good ol' Eisenhower.

It's very difficult to maintain a locomotive, when a museum's budget doesn't allow for maintenance.
I wouldn't brag too much, because Dwight was give a coat of some horrible paint that, so I am told, reacts badly with the original paint, and in extreme cases, can cause corrosion.

oh... i see... I've heard that the paint on Dwight was pretty thick and too dark in color, but i didn't realise that it was THAT bad...

It was too thick, and definitely the wrong colour. It could be used, but it would depend on how the surface was prepared. Using the type that was put on Dwight, would be best done by rubbing down to bare metal, but that would probably take too long and be too expensive, to be done by most museums. As it was, it had to be done over here, to give it a proper finish.

had it been up to me, I'd gladly let england HAVE the locomotives. you know how to take care of them far better

No doubt a lot of people would like to see them here permanently, and sometimes I think that way, but the symbolism of the names being in North America is possibly more important.

Just discovered this image, great work, even better with out the artist as you say. I have to agree with you about the price for the shoots too.

Thanks very much for your comment.
I did have to photoshop the offending artist out, and was quite pleased with the result.
The cost of these shoots is way above the pocket of an average photographer.

Thank you so much.
I'm flattered that you've included my mediocre photograph among so many good ones.

One steamed, one bruised, one somewhat decent, the contrast between the lot of them is really something!

The contrast is very pronounced, but I'm told that the battered and bruised one (Dominion of Canada) will be the easiest of the 2 North American locomotives. to repaint

Dwight has been rapainted with a two pack paint which is very difficult to rub down and overcoat, whereas Canada is the old BR paint which is miuch easier to rub down.

Good capture Bob. I kow that museums need a little help to keep afloat, like our castles and cathedrals ect but they are frightening people off. Like the layout of the photo, good on you....N

Thanks Neil.
Yes, but I think £60 per person (or £30 an hour) to take photographs is a bit too steep. It was just there in front of me, and oif course I had to try to capture it.

Of course he is, no doubt there was a photo shoot offered by the museum later on for a small/medium donation.

Not a small, or medium donation, but a hefty £60 per person, for an evening, which was all of about 2 hours.
I hope they had very few, or indeed no takers at all for that price.

Then I hope that's all they got. Like a lot of things, if they reduced the prices, they woulkd get more people whoi could affoird it, and in consequence make more money.
