Taken yesterday at Tursdale Junction, near Ferryhill, County Durham.

60009 Union of South Africa was about one hour late, but the wait was worth it, because for some reason that we don't know about, she was held at a green signal about twenty yards from where we were standing. Initially she was held about half a mile away, but the driver slowly crept up to give us a good view of her.

The driver even gave us a little show, by spinningher wheels while standing still. Maybe not the correct thing to do, and possibly causing a dimple in the rail, but it was impressive, as was the blast on the whistle, and the opening of the drain cocks. Unfortunately I wasn't able to catch any of this, because my camera had switched itself off.
