Description Yes, yes it is.

Meat gives us lots of iron, and vitamins, and is healthy if eaten well.

Yes it is if it's cooked and raised right. It has complete protein, iron, healthy fats, calcium, and other nutrients. Veganism isn't cruelty free either.

Did you tell the predators about this? Doubt they can care. History is full of people who thought they were doing the right thing but made it worse like all these educational reforms, the D.A.R.E program, Communism and Socialism, not holding/cuddling babies, various medical practices, and dumb laws to name a few. The claims against meat and animal foods are misguided at best but are total scare tactics. Plenty of folks eat meat and are perfectly healthy. Eating processed meat and burned meat.

And since when meat, much less eating it, is an "injustice?" Actually, what makes meat an "injustice?" Because there's literally no logic to what you're saying here.

Injustice may not be applicable here, as it's a human concept, but I still feel it is needless death. Some anemic or otherwise ill people may need meat, but the vast majority of society doesn't need it, at least not first worlders with access to internet. I think flexitarian/reduceitarian are at least doable for most here.

Animals still die for vegans to eat, just in other ways such as pest control and being killed via farming equipment. You are likely using products sourced from animals like cars, computers, phones, paints, inks, medicines, make up, and more. If you want to prevent all death of animals then you forfeit all modern luxuries or just plain not exist.

"Some anemic or otherwise ill people may need meat, but the vast majority of society doesn't need it"

Um, yes we ALL do, we're SUPPOSED to eat meat regardless if we're ill or not. It's one of the very few sources of 10+ grams of protein for our muscles. Lack of protein leads to muscle loss and eventually illness. It's not a luxury, it's a necessity.

Then eat the numerous options of whole grains (amaranth, spelt, wheat, etc.), legumes (lentils, peas, chickpeas, nuts, soy, etc.), rice, grass (wild rice), fruit with some extra protein like avocados and strawberries, and whatever else has a bit of protein.Β

Those are inferior sources and unless you want to spend the majority of your waking hours eating then meat and other animal foods are necessary.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

pokemonsonicgirl123 In reply to k-rooltyfree [2019-10-24 01:04:17 +0000 UTC]

I don't like whole grains because they make my mouth feel dry. I also don't like nuts because they make me gag.

An avocado only has 2 grams of protein. A strawberry has almost 1 gram of protein. A fruit has the average of 2.5 grams of protein. And yes, I did look it up and went to nutrition sites that has such information. So in terms of gaining weight (as I am underweight for my age and height), these are no good for me (and yes, I actually do eat them, including the avocado, sprinkle some sugar on that and it tastes a little better). So, eating meat is the only option I have to gain weight and maintain it. There's nothing amoral about that, now is there?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

k-rooltyfree In reply to pokemonsonicgirl123 [2019-10-24 02:42:58 +0000 UTC]

The point is to eat a variety of foods. There are still things like wheat, soy, lentils, and beans. If they make your mouth dry then try preparing them with a different sauce or oil. Meat always left my mouth more dry than tofu or rice dishes combined with fruit and corn tortilla chips and guacamole ever did, although I won't blame you for not eating tofu since it can be hard to digest.

It takes a lot of planning and knowledge to do so and that's time and often money that most folks can't afford or are willing to spend. It also takes time for knowledge to be acquired. Even still most vegans quit despite the fact they did it correctly and tried so many different ways when veganism started failing them. Any ex vegan will tell you that from experience.Β

I'm just going to say this, because this stamp was linked to me. I'm in no way trying to convert anyone nor am I trying to start anything.

There are significant health differences between vegetarians and meat-eaters, with the majority of the positive ones falling on the side of the plant-eaters. Vegetarian diets themselves differ: Ovo-vegetarians include eggs in their diet, lacto-vegetarians include milk and lacto-ovo-vegetarians include both. There are two less restrictive categories, too: pescatarians, who consume fish, and semi-vegetarians (β€œflexitarians”), who consume meat occasionally. Regardless of the type of vegetarian, consuming a primarily plant-based diet can yield a great deal of health advantages.

Plant-based diets are naturally lower in calories, saturated fat and cholesterol than carnivorous diets but are higher in fiber, vitamins, minerals and health-promoting antioxidants. Plant-based nutrients include potassium, magnesium, folate and vitamins C and E. This difference in nutritional value is likely responsible for the health benefits experienced by vegetarians, but this is true only when the diet emphasizes plants, avoids processed foods, is balanced and includes variety.

Those who follow a plant-based diet are found to have lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancers, type-2 diabetes and insulin resistance. Those who eat meat frequently have a higher risk of cancer and overall disease. Semi-vegetarians, who eat meat about once a week, do not reap the same level of benefit but are still found to have intermediate protection against lifestyle diseases.Β [source]
