There's one problem. What about states that are divided? For instance, things people hear about New York primarily come out of the population of New York City without any regard for the rest of the state. Most things are also primarily for the benefit of NYC. For instance, the state gov wants to raise minimum wage. This would benefit NYC folks because it's expensive to live there, but it would hurt upstate NY because they can't afford that since it's so neglected by the state gov.

I can understand where you are coming from. I did consider that too which does make it a little difficult to discern what a state's personality would be ^^'
I've resolved to goΒ few ways:
- the state has sundowning/personality disorder caused by long-time political unrest/change (Illinois and New York)
- the state is politically split into two (this I gave to California and a possible 51st state Jefferson)
- and the easy way out: generalize the entire state by their historical/cultural/traditional shaping (like what Hidekaze didΒ for Hetalia)

Manhattan should be its own state as far as I'm concerned. It drains the rest of the state of resources and leaves us in a dictatorship.

Yes, I did. And it honestly should because pretty much any area not part of either New York City or Albany is more conservative than the rest of the state. But because NYC is saturated by a ginormous, liberal-minded population and Albany is our state capital (which is mostly populated by NYC politicians, again whoΒ are like-minded liberals), New York state will ALWAYS be a "blue state" unless Long Island broke up to become its own state. (I made a mistake in my last comment about Manhatten being its own state. What I meant was NYC itself or Long Island as a whole becoming its own state. My apologies.)
