When his wife left him, he found solace in the bottle (= drank alcohol).
Music was a great solace to me during this period.

I know exactly what you mean. I grew up in the countryside but really came to appreciate the solace in the hills after my dad died. This photograph really sums it up.

The photo is beautiful in full-width, but as I scroll back and forth, the left two-thirds also works very well, partly, I think, because it takes the far tree stand out of dead center.
