Description Over the last couple of days I facelifted this image. What was revised/changed:
-the palm trees were replaced by conifers (spruces). I thought conifers would give the image more verticality
-tweaked the light rays a little bit
-added falling maple leaves (from some trees above the cave entrance), to give the image even a more pronounced fantasy feel- this took an entire day, I'm glad it's over
...and that's all

Tech info:
-original resolution: 7500x5000
-Lightwave 8 & 9.2 for everything
-Photoshop CS2 for post

Im a photoshop and animation program user...but XFrog is hard. I teach myself how to use stuff and i just messed around with it a bit and it seems real complicated. Did you take a class on it or did you teach yourself it???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Horhew In reply to iCBTiDarkMoon [2010-02-04 09:15:47 +0000 UTC]

no need to take classes. there are plenty of free online resources/tutorials. then there's the application manual which give you a lot of info. it's a bit more "abstract" than many other programs, but if you get past that impression, it's not that hard to use. cheers!

nathanmarciniak [2010-02-03 22:58:48 +0000 UTC]

I can't argue with the results, it's a gorgeous image, but 300 layers!? That seems crazy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Horhew In reply to nathanmarciniak [2010-02-03 23:29:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, yeah it's a bit much to work with, but I wanted absolute control over everything, so I refrained from merging layers most of the time, in case I wanted to change anything (which I actually did at some point, so that proved to be a smart decision). Also, I counted a lot of layer clipping masks in those 300 layers (mainly color overlays), so I only have like...maybe 150-180 real "objects" in the scene.

An instant 10/10!

1.) Great detail in all forms and aspects of the sence.
2.) The color choice is fantastic.
3.) Your shading/dust/light/etc. is perfect for the scene.
4.) Your lighting is perfect.
5.) The rock faces and trees are absolutely beautiful (these are usually the hardest and you pulled it off well.)
6.) Your 3D and floating affects are wonderful.
7.) The lava (I supose it's lava...) looks realistic.
8.) The wood structures, ropes, and metal rings are great for adding a sci-fi look and feel, and showing that this is probably ancient times, or at least long before our time.
9.) I absolutely love the way that you use the falling leaves to give more detail,
10.) and last but not least, I love the way you added a person up on the rockface to show just how big the structures are as well as the rocks themselves.
