Now that I've returned to this account I figured I should probably start out with updating one of my favorite OCs. It's been sooooo long since I've drawn this girl! I didn't change too much, but as you can see the major change I did make was to her mask. I just figured that since unlike most heroes Charade isn't able to take her mask off at any point so it would be kind of a hassle having to go day to day with a full faced mask on all the time. But I'd like to hear what you guys think. New mask, yea or meh?And, this was a minor change, but I thought that if she had her mother's necklace with her than she might as well wear it. Not quite sure why I didn't put that into the original design in the first place
But I also think that the small necklace of blue just kind of helps break up the color scheme of red nicely.If you don't remember much about this gal then you can see her profile pic here ------->scarlettesketcher.deviantart.c…

*When he breaks through the dark constraints, her focus on the tangible shadows is shattered and some of her energy is efficiently drained. Before she can summon anymore he unexpectedly grabs her in a vice like grip. She grits her teeth as she tries to tear away from his hold and in response her body begins to give off with the white glow. However, this time the light is much dimmer. In fact, it flickers for only a second before suddenly fizzling out and reverting Charade to her normal form. Her powers were definitely being overloaded, but while still under the hypnotic state it was still pushing, still driving her to change in order to carry out her intended goal of destroying him and the others. Even so, it would still take a moment for her to regain enough strength to change once again. But while she is waiting for this, the hypnosis is continuously tearing at her mind to get her to resume her mission, causing a painful headache to pass through her. But even in pain, she writhes and jerks about in his arms, fighting him with the little strength she has to get him to release her* Let..... g... go!

I can't Charade. I'm sorry but if I let you go, you'll hurt your friends. And I know you wouldn't ever forgive yourself. I've seen it happen before. *He holds her tightly and drags her away from the scene.* Come on Charade. Somewhere in there you know what's going on. You have to fight it!
*Malice follows behind Red dutifully. Though he truly wanted to go in there and finish the job, he knew Red had a reason for everything and he wasn't about to question her. Drawing some blood from her thumb, Red smears some on a column and they are swallowed up by a flurry of bloody tentacles. And as soon as Red disappears, so does her powers hold on Charade.*

*With every step Charade struggles and fights him, growling and grinding her teeth when she can't get him to loosen his grip. She's given him and scratched at his arms but nothing seems to be working. But even despite her failed efforts, she can gradually feel her strength returning. When it finally reaches the point where she can transform again, she gives off with the bright white glow. But then, she suddenly gives out with a sharp gasp when she's finally released from the sinister spell. Unfortunately, she's already in the middle of changing. And her powers were overloading. The bright glow emitting from off her is now growing stronger than it ever has before and it continues to build up with a strong burning sensation. Charade gives out with a pained cry but now fights even harder for him to let her go, knowing what will happen next* A-alex let go! Please you... h-have to let go! NOW!

*As her glow brightens, Alex begins to feel something. He can sense her energy growing. And her sudden change of personality lets him know that not only was she released from Red's hypnosis, but also something big was going to happen. Alex glances around quickly and sees people in the shop windows. Whatever was about to happen, he couldn't let it happen here. With a heavy grunt and a huge exertion of his weakened powers, he takes off with her and flies the two of them into the air and over the river so she wouldn't hit the hard ground.*

*Watching them rise quickly up into the air Charade's eyes widen drastically and she begins to fight harder to get him to release his grip on her as the glow builds even brighter* W-what no! What are you doing?! You have to let me go, g-get away from m-me! You h-h-have.... to let.... m-me........ AHHHHHHHHHHH! *The white light reaches its peak and suddenly all of the built up energy within her releases itself in a massive blast, creating a blinding flash of light that blooms between them and the small explosion rips the two of them away from each*

*Charade is flung into the icy river even as the blast rocks the small town. Alex is less lucky. He skids across the ground before slamming back first into a small sedan. His powers flare once before failing as he passes out from the blast. Cyborg runs over to the river and, using his good hand, fires a cable into the water to grab the girl so she isn't pulled under. As he tows her out of the water, a look of concern is etched on his face as he asks.* Hey girl. You back to normal?

*When she's pulled out of the icy waters, Charade coughs violently and her body is incredibly limp due to losing a massive amount of her energy in the blast. Once she recovers from getting the bit of water out of her lungs, she manages a very weak chuckle before finding the strength to answer him* ... Y-yeah.... *She gives another couple of feeble coughs but then begins to glance around dazedly at their surroundings. After being thrown into the water she didn't manage to see what had happened to Alex. She knew just how much force was let loose when her powers overloaded and normally the people around her got the consequences of it far worse than she did. She was worried that he had really gotten hurt. Without much strength to move her body, she at least is able to turn her head to look around and she glances about rather worriedly* A-alex....... where.......

*At her concerned question, Cyborg turns and looks towards Alex. He is unconscious and laying against a sizeable dent in the car he hit. His chest is still bare as his powers have finally snuffed out. But it does rise and fall rhythmically as an apparent sign of breath.* Looks like he's unconscious but otherwise ok. *Turning back to Charade he gives her a once over with his scanner before saying.* Good. You aren't hurt. Stay here. I need to go back and check on Rae. *Standing, he jogs over to where Raven is lying down contacting Robin on his communicator as he does.*

*Charade glances over towards where Cyborg had looked and catches sight of Alex. Slammed into the side of a car from the blast she had produced. Her stomach immediately churns at the thought of just how many people she had hurt today. Against her will or not, she had royally screwed up. How could she have let them take control of her like that? She should have been stronger..... why couldn't she have been stronger....... Moving her head back to center to where she is looking up at the sky, she tightly closes her eyes as a low sigh passes through her lips and a small lump develops in her throat* ... I'm s-so sorry...so......sorry.......... *A small bit of tears forms at the corner of her eyes, but slowly she slips into unconsciousness as the effect of her lost energy finally takes its toll on the girl*

*Charade sleeps for an unknown amount of time before slowly coming to. Dim light illuminates the room she's in gently easing her from unconsciousness and... Wait... Room? As her eyes open to look around, she finds herself in a sparsely decorated room and lying in a twin sized, yet strangely comfy bed. The room is very neat, with wooden floors, a space rug, a small desk with a lamp and a computer, and a dresser. Suddenly a short, blonde woman with the slightest signs of aging on her face, comes walking inside humming quietly to herself. Upon seeing Charade awake she smiles warmly and says in a gentle voice but thick Russian accent.* Oh good! You're awake. From what Alex told me you went through quite the ordeal. Would you like some water?

*After having groggily taken in her unfamiliar surroundings she rubs at her eyes and is slightly taken back when the woman suddenly enters the room. She blinks a couple times at the friendly woman, slowly sits up in the bed as she briefly glances around at the room again before turning back to her and asking in a quiet confused voice* ..... W-where am I?

Geographically, you're just outside of Moscow. *The woman walks over to Charade, bringing the computer chair with her. She sets the chair next to the bed and sits next to the girl with a familiarity that could only come from a mother. With the back of her hand she feels Charade's forehead before nodding and saying to herself.* No fever. *Pulling back she smiles warmly and continues.* Alexander brought you and your friends here to heal after your fight. The other girl, Raven I believe, is restless but healing from that nasty cut. And Demetri, Alexander's father, is working on getting parts to repair that nice young man with the metal body. *She looks the girl up and down carefully before shaking her head and observing.* My, but you are a thin little thing aren't you?

*Charade blinks a couple times when the woman presses the back of her hand to her forehead, but actually finds the gesture to be a bit comforting and familiar. It was something her own mother had done many times. A small smile comes to her face but is then replaced with a bit of surprise when the lady comments on her being a "thin little thing" and she unintentionally glances over herself as if she had never noticed before. When she raises her gaze back to the older woman, a wave of relief washes over her when her mind finally catches up to hearing her mention how her friends were alright but she then suddenly gives a small concerned frown in the same moment* Alex..... is... is he alright?

*Alex's mom chuckles lightly and gestures towards the window in the room.* Why don't you see for yourself? *The window overlooks the backyard of their home, and standing outside is Alex in his human form. He's wearing a grey sweater in lieu of his black flight jacket and is placing large bits of wood on top of a stump, before bringing an axe up over his shoulders and splitting it in two. He then repeats the process several times with a steady puff of condensed breath as the only indication of effort on his part.* That boy is as stubborn as an ox with the strength to back it up. *His mother mentions with a hint of pride in her voice.* Gets it from his father.

*Looking outside the window Charade can't help but give a faint smile when she catches sight of Alex working outside. Wow. For someone who got slammed into several buildings plus
a sedan, he certainly didn't show it. In fact, he looked completely refreshed and relaxed. Probably even more so than she felt at the moment. Her head was still spinning a bit from being manipulated like someone's puppet and she gives a weak smile as she turns back to the woman* Um, i-if you don't mind, I wouldn't mind that water now, Ma'am.

*The woman smiles at this, absentmindedly coaxing Charades hair back into place behind her shoulders as she does. A singularly mother-like habit.* Of course dear. And I'll bring you some food as well. You look as though you could wither away at any second. *Standing up, she pushes the desk chair back into place before exiting the room and resuming her humming. And Charade is left alone again to rest and recuperate. The only sound to keep her company is the rhythmic thunk of Alex's axe outside. After several minutes, the door creaks open and Raven floats inside. White bandages are wrapped firmly around her midsection where she was hit. A dark brown splotch remained as an indication that the wound had started to clot. In her familiar low voice, but with a hint of a smile, she says.* Hey. She told me you were up. How do you feel?

*Having laid back down against the bed while waiting for the woman to return, Charade then looks up to see her friend enter the room and she quickly sits up with a light chuckle* I've... been better. B-but I'm ok. Especially now that no one's messing with my head anymore. Heh... *Only being able to manage a halfhearted laugh about her previous predicament, she then looks over Raven and an immediate expression of concern flashes over her face as she studies over the healing wound across the girl's stomach* But what about you? Are... are you ok?

I'll live. *She responds calmly before sitting cross legged at the bottom of her bed and wincing at the motion. With a slight sigh she continues.* I think it would be a safe assumption to say you were hypnotized. And I have a fairly good idea of who did it and how. But I need you to tell me everything. Everything you remember, experienced, and felt. Even the smallest detail could be vital.

*Charade turns towards her and pulls her knees up to her chest as she rests her chin against the top of her knees* I'm not sure what I can tell you. It was just so..... creepy. It was like I wasn't even me anymore. Like I was just some bystander in someone else's body and I couldn't control anything that they did. *Subconsciously Charade hugs her knees tighter to herself in a comforting motion and gives a faint frown as she glances off to the side* ...It was awful.

*Raven watches her reaction carefully and realizes that now may have been too soon to bring this up. After all, it wasn't everyday one was forced to fight one's friends. With a bit of an awkward stutter in her movement, she reaches out and puts a gentle hand on her shoulder to comfort her.* ... It's ok Charade..... If you think of anything else..... I mean.....

*Feeling the comforting hand on her shoulder Charade looks back at the girl and after a moment gives a soft smile. And while she knew Raven wasn't normally one for overly sentimental gestures, Charade can't help but lean forward and give her friend a warm hug in return for her concern and just in relief that she was alright* Thanks Raven. *But she then just as quickly pulls back once she remembers the girl's injury and she gives a small sheepish smile* O-oops sorry. Didn't hurt anything did I?

*Raven stiffen initially at the contact but when Charade pulls back out of concern for her well being she can't help but smile.* No, you're fine. *Silently, Raven muses about her personality. In a lot of ways, she and Starfire were alike. Suddenly, the door opens and Alex comes walking in. A fine sheen of sweat coats his face as he peels his sweater off and heads towards the closet. However, as he lifts the woolen item over his head, he notices the two girls sitting on the bed. Dropping the article of clothing to the floor he is revealed to be wearing a black t-shirt with some old metal band plastered over the front. Not really what one would expect from the straight laced Russian.* Ah Charade. You are awake. I hope I am not disturbing you.

*Charade smiles and gives a quick dismissive wave of her hand* Not at all. I was getting up anyways. *She lightly swings her legs over the side of the bed and sits on the edge of the mattress before giving out with a small chuckle* You know, I don't know of many people that get into a knock-down, drag-out fight and then "relax" by chopping a heck ton of wood. Heh, think you could give me some of that energy?

*Alex smirks at her praise and puffs his chest out a little.* As if that little punk could actually hurt me. *He reaches inside his closet and pulls out a new shirt and pants.* And look at you! You'll be up and about in no time.

*A light smile comes to Charade's face and she gives a small chuckle* Pssht, me? Heck I bet I can be up and about right now! *Wanting to show off that she can shake off such a harrowing fight just as easily as he can, she energetically stands from the bedside and gives a bright confidant grin. That smile doesn't last long however when the lingering bit of dizziness catches up to her, making the room spin slightly and her legs to wobble beneath her until she falls back down with a plop on the mattress edge. She gives a quick shake of her head as she sits there to clear her thoughts before clearing her throat and giving a small sheepish smile* .... Ooooon second I-I might just sit back down here..... you know just for a second... or two. Not that I NEED to o-of course, it's just that this bed is.... uh............ comfy?

*Alex watches her attempt to show off her strength with interest. At first it looks like she is actually strong enough to stand on her own. But then as she stumbles back to the bed, he realizes she was just trying to keep pace with her friends. When she attempts to save face he decides not to press the issue and simply nods.* Well it is stuffed with goose down. *He stuffs the clothing under his arm and says.* In any case, it's best not to push yourself. You put out a lot of power in that blast. Trying to move to early will only exacerbate your recovery time.

*Hearing him mention the powerful blast that she had inadvertently released earlier causes a faint frown to pass over her face and she places a hand on the back of her neck* Yeah about that...... I'm really sorry. When my powers overload it does...... that. And um, sorry about throwing you into the buildings........ slamming you into the ground...... and all that......

*Alex stands there silently, a grim look on his face. Slowly, he clears the distance between them.* That wasn't you. *He responds with finality. He then turns around and walks out the bedroom door. They hear him say in the hallway.* She's awake if you want to see her. *Suddenly, they hear a loud heavy thumping as footsteps approach her room. Cyborg peers inside before smiling wide and entering.* Hey girl! How's the head?

*Charade watches quietly after Alex as he leaves the room but then gives a bright smile when she sees Cyborg come in. She chuckles lightly and taps her finger against the side of her head* Thankfully mine again. How bout you? You did kinda take a sword to the chest.

I'm torn. One one hand, I love and understand the practicality of a half-mask.
On the other, I think it just looks nice to have the full mask.
Then again, I'm notoriously indecisive so...I think this looks good!
