Description Well I guess this is the introduction to my world Octerra (©2004). I'm just putting out some work to see if there is an interest out there. I will be adding more work shortly at the end of the month (sept 2007).
The story is based on a philosophy that everything is part of a greater whole, but without the individual unique parts the whole is unable to sustain and thrive. Each part is significant and together makes a whole. There are 8 main characters from 8 different races (Each represented by a different color and set of ideologies fitted to that color, Dustin Papow ©2004). Together the colors make up a whole. The world is rather elaborate so check back often to see postings. You are meeting the first character I have developed, Jasper, of the Anhingas (Homo Pheonixous) (Yellow).

Please be sure to see the detail. There is so much more to see up close. The painting is actually very large and full of detail. The whole piece is flat colors juxtaposed to one another. It is a long process. Photoshop.

It's amazing. Which one is Jasper? The baby Gryphon? I assume the boy is the God Hermese.

Jasper is the boy. He is a character in a fantasy chronicle I have been working on.

This is what happens when great imagination and creativity come together with the skill of a master artisan.

Great art is all about moving the observer in some way, touching their hearts, conveying and inspiring any combination of mood, emotion, story, wonder, beauty/ugliness, message, idea, and thought.

Your art moves me and fills me with wonder. Not only do you give us a story for it, but it inspires other stories in me as well. I gasped when I saw this. Then I moved on to see your other art, and felt wonder again and again.

You have an amazing gift. You have a unique voice through your art. I can't wait to see what is next.

Thank you for sharing your work here with us. I greatly appreciate it. My life is defined by physical pain these latter years, and seeing your work made my day, got a big smile out of me, and that is just short of miraculous.

Thank You.

Matthew

That is an ingenious solution to attaching "tail-feathers" to humans without obstructing their pose. Lovely the pheasant-like coloration on the wings as well.

Thaks. He's a character in a book I'm writting. Among many other characters on this site. Most of them are in my sketches. i hope to do a character sheet of each of them in the next comming months now that I've sworn to not invest so much of myself into my day job work. So look for a detailed character sheet of him and others by the end of the year.

Thanks! I will be posting some character sheets of this character and his companions soon, so be on the look out. I have been doing some extensive work on the story he is from and am excited to be showing them off by the end of this month.

lots of wows, chills going down my spine, this is amazing...just words don't come, more wows

Jasper has a great ass, but...beside that, the jewelry detail is great, and even with the short sword, he seems tender and kind

Yea he is a gentle sort. There is a big story around him with 8 other strange characters like himself. Look for more work from it if you liked this. One day I hope to have a graphic novel about the whole thing.

Gorgeous. Love the lay of the feathers. I take it those plants are derived from Earth's Cephalotus and Sarracenia minor? (australian and american carnivorous pitcher plants for those wondering about me spewing Latin) carnivorous plants in artwork.

At first glance, this reminds me of one of my favourite children's picture books, Hey Al!, in which a guy is taken away to this island only inhabited by birds and he lives a paradise sort of life until he realizes he's turning into a bird, too. It's wicked cool. So is this.

The anatomy of the man is off. His left shoulder is too high, and does not fit the curve of his spine. It looks as though you referenced the torso and the lower half of the body from two different sources that didn't fit together. The anatomy for each part is good, but not in one piece.

Everything else about this painting is fantastic...I love birds, and these are some wonderful whimsical birds! I think my favourite is the large bird with the eagle face looking at the viewer. The colouring style is very soft and peaceful, which in places contrasts pleasantly with the very bright colours you've chosen for the man Good job!

Thanks for the crit. I enjoy people who take that kind of time. I don't exactly see the same problem as you becuase I have seen this piece from start to finish- start being my best frined standing naked in my room- finished being all the things that cover up the figure. I don't belive i's off but I will spend soe time and visit the original drawing of the male figure without the complication of the wings.... oh the wings thats why you find it off! I positioned the wings off so to show thier color- the wings are actualy in an awkward (possible) but out of place and not so normal of a position. And since they cover the shoulder and other arm and can see how it may confuse you. Thanks for looking at it.

I have an art theacher who was always repeting in class that a painting or a drawing should never be outligned. Of course, it was meant to force us to learn light, shadow and color contrast. At that time, I was never drawing/painting with outligns anyway so it was all good...

Until I tryed this style, of using lines and... seriously, to me, it's even harder !! You got here a very good exemple, of not putting all lines black. They can be colored and become part of the image. They bring all the charism, all the strenght to this image.

I also like the way you play with contrast (very strong up front and lighter and lighter in the depth of the background.

You have a very great sense of male anatomy ...and birdish anatomy too !! Congradulation for your work and go on!!
Long live Dustin !!

My God this is beautiful! The colous and utter most percice detail is very obvious. The love that you put into this picture just seems to glow from the words you put beneth it and the piece itself. Your idea is amazing and I think would help bring out the same images in other people, like myelf. As soon as I saw this it reminded me of myself and I don't know if you agree but that's how people find their favourite peces, by seeing somthing brought out from their own mind with somone else hand. You'vereally has done an amazing job... I have so much more to say about this ppicture but can find the words to explain it properly... you've rendered me speechless and I am just happy to see this and much much more from you I hope.
