The two hostile dogs flew and crashed into the wall. When they rose up from the ground, whining from pain, they fled. Bolt stood there breathing heavily watching how the two ran to the other end of the alley and finally disappeared. Bolt's snow white fur was covered in sweat and he was bleeding badly from his front paw. He felt the incredible pain from his wounds, yet he ignored them and turned around. "Mittens? Mittens are you all right?" he asked concern in his tone. He saw Mittens pushed against the corner, shaking badly. She had tears in her eyes, and as she was whimpering she was unable to speak. His heart felt like it had turned into ice. So bad he felt for seeing her so afraid. "Mittens....? I'm so sorry..I.." Bolt stumbled as he was trying to think of words to comfort her. "Hush. Don't say another word," Mittens whispered, suddenly very calm. Her feelings for Bolt had overcome her fear as they were growing stronger. No one had ever risked his life to protect her. The feeling it created in her heart was in discribable. "I'm fine Bolt, thanks to you. But your collar," she added sadly as she picked up part of it "it's broken." "It's okay Mittens. As long as you are safe," he said, smiling more happily than ever just before he passed out.
