Great art style. It's got a late summer/early autumn feel to it. (It does to me anyway).

Oh man, these pieces continue to just blow me out of the water. Not to mention fuel an impressive collection of wallpapers that I have for my computer. ^O^
Really do get mesmerized when looking at something in the scale of MLP and how grand, lush and lively the whole world is. There's so much to see, so much to take your eyes away I really have to credit artists like you who think to add such depth, life and beauty to an already wonderful world.
Even have to admit there's a hint of either Fall weather here or it could just be the orange glow of the city. For whatever reason, I really have to admit the calmness the colors and where they get to you and when you really stop and look onto both Rarity and Pinkie Pie for something you could only call as a job well done, lol.
Very amazing perspective work on both the train making it curve the track and even the grand scale of the statue as overtakes the look of the city and further onto the depth of all the many buildings. I have no clue how anyone could bring this all together in this mind, but some artists really know how to take inspiration when it comes to them and credit again to you Huussii for really going the distance here.
Like to throw in lovely work on the smaller more tinier things you almost miss that give the environment its truly feeling of life. From the ducks in the water, the waves, the bull-rushes on the shore, to even the steam as is lightly floats on top and along the train.
Your a brilliant artist to take such a simple idea and come back with such lush look of everything else around that idea. Hats off to you Huussii and please keep up the inspirational work. *nods*

Heh, Thank you! I tend to do both depending on my overall mood. Sometimes I feel so pumped up I'm itching to go for something with an impact, sometimes I just calm and have a cup of tea while feeling like portraying the beauty of life. It almost feels like there's no in-between!

I'll never get tired of viewing your art.
I love the way Pinkie is passed out hugging her canon. Thought it was kind of weird that her canon was used as a plot device at all. She's always seemed to just summon those canons from mallet space but I guess even Pinkie has limitations. ^^
This piece is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing work as always.

You did a gorgeous job bringing the city to life as the tired travelers make their way home. The fading daylight, the haze, and the gritty feel lend charm to the majesty of the city; then the contrast of the old tracks, narrow and litter-filled close-up stretch, and ducks feeding, is very real and gives a calming feeling after a busy day in the city. Rarity's look of appreciation as she looks back is very hopeful while Pinkie's slumber as she cuddles the cannon she nearly lost is just too cute. Thanks for sharing.

You've definitely captured the feel of the area around train tracks. It's like the cheeriness of the show blended with a bit of realism. I quite like it.

Awesome art! The episode was decent, but I thought Pinkie had multiple party cannons? Oh wait, no, those things she hid in Twilight's castle were called confetti cannons. I suppose there's a slight difference.

The use of the rule of thirds... it's so good. Your style is awesome. I love the painted feel of it.
Also, how do you do your foregrounds? The plants and whatnot? Are those custom brushes? If so, where did you get them?

Huussii In reply to HyperDashPony [2016-04-04 15:50:02 +0000 UTC]
In fact, it's not following the rule of thirds exactly except for the horizon, the statue is a little farther apart while the characters are way further. I wasn't too worried about it since the eye will find its place around the piece as long as there are no tangents or stuff being and feeling way too close to the edges. However I had to make a deliberate effort to make it work, such as covering the center pole in steam/smoke to reduce contrast as I was still worried about thirds having something eye grabbing.
After all, the rule of thirds is more like a starting point or a healthy suggestion. Here the reason I had to not exactly use it is because it'd bring the Manehattan and the characters way too close to each other, I wanted to emphasize the idea that they're leaving and Manehattan is being left behind. Especially the characters and the train get that "passing by" feeling way better this way.
Foreground mostly consists of simple solid brushes, the one used for 90% of the stuff is just the Photoshop chalk 23 brush. Other than that, there's one kind of stringy custom one I've made by simply throwing some dots around, it's still solid enough to be used as a normal brush but leaves some bristly edges around. And to add some final touches and dabs around to break the smoothness of it all are a couple of custom texture brushes I made from rock texture photos at www.textures.com/ . The reason I say rock is because those tend to have such variation and contrast they're easier to turn into brushes that mimic dry paint a little.
All in all, my set is kind of crude, I've been really lazy about finding and making proper brushes. But in the end, the brushes have a very little to do with it, it's mostly real life studies and observations of how color and light would behave, and stock Photoshop brushes will get you reeeally far.

I love the painting style you gave to this piece. Far of your usual very detailed ones you used to make. I like the angle and the departing Manehattan to give a following to the episode. Pinkie sure loves her cannon.
Amazing work on this. BTW, how much you liked the episode?
On a sidenote, if you ever visit New York, use the train or the bus. The traffic there just for going on the island is... crazy.

I really like that. It's softer and have more nuances. Good for you for trying something different. Can't deny that you enjoyed the numerous faces of Pinkie in this one. And that Rarity being Pinkie moment. Uh... Rayraytea?
Most big cities have their traffic jams. Well it's about the same in any big cities in the world. ere around Montreal, it's horrible from 6am to 9am and 4pm to 7pm. Damn Rush hour! The best is just avoiding them. I mean the cities. We have very long highways who can go for hundred of kilometer non-stop.
