June was a rather old creature when Leon found her. She was skinny, withered, sickly, and just all around not pleasing to look at. She hadn’t been uplifted at the time, she was just a random rat Leon found in the silo, but she looked so sad, so scared. It make their heart hurt. Ever so gently, Leon picked the rat up and carried her inside, frowning at the way she just gave up and didn’t try to fight. They cleaned her up, gave her some food, and set up a nice little box for her to sleep in, deciding to take care of her for a while until she either passed away or was well enough to return to the Wild. June did eventually get her strength back, but she was still too skinny to fend for herself. In a spur of the moment decision, Leon took her to the village and had her uplifted, deciding to keep her company until the end of her days.
Appearance
Detailed Description: Stocky as an ass but strong as a horse, Leon is an average sized mule with very obvious donkey lineage. Their coat is a soft caramel color with paler undertones around the eyes, muzzle, and underside of their body. Leon’s hair is usually kept in loose green dreadlocks piled and clipped to the back of their head, topped by a plain black cap to keep the sun out of their eyes. The hair on their cheeks is unusually bushy and thick, as is the stripe of fur down their chest, leading to Leon having a bit of a “soft and fluffy” appearance about them. Tobaino markings create a sort of border along their spine as well as a nice set of white marks across their hooves. The leg Leon lost in the incident has been taken off just below the hock and is fit into a golden prosthetic.
Design Notes:
- Hair loops are optional as Leon’s style does tend to change day to day depending on how they feel. The dreadlocks piled on the back of their head also have no rhyme or reason to them, but are usually pinned and clipped up to keep it out of their eyes.
- Fluffy cheeks and chest are a must! Leon’s gotta have that teddy bear appearance to em.
- The hat is just a generic black baseball cap. Charms or little decals are sometimes added for extra flare but they aren’t necessary.
- The tobaino doesn’t have to be accurate at all, just go for it.
- The straps for the prosthetic wrap around the top of the leg and middle of the hock to hold it in place. Leon often takes this off when they’re sleeping or not feeling well, which is often.
Breed: Common Horse
Build: Generic Mule, takes more after the donkey side of their family

Personality
Responsible
Mostly thanks to their job and upbringing, Leon tends to take on and handle many different responsibilities at once. Being a provider, there are a lot of tasks that must get done before the sun sets and the plains become dangerous. That means Leon has to wake up early, go out to the fields in the heat, harvest the rice, prune the other plants, and water them alongside babysitting and a whole menagerie of other chores they might be assigned during the day. They’ve got a whole lot on their plate, but nevertheless, they somehow manage to complete the tasks on their list and find space in their schedule to have some fun afterwards.
Mellow
Be it a product of their product (heheh) or simply innate nature, Leon is the chillest goddamn horse this side of Sirith. Great with kids, soft spoken, and a major sweetheart, they often give off a vibe of being rather carefree and relaxed, regardless of the situation. Because of this, Leon can’t really be jostled or outwardly freaked out unless the situation is life-threatening or something equally alarming. Some of their more serious family members see this mellowness as them being unable to take things seriously, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Spontaneous
Adding onto their mellow nature, Leon is very much a go-with-the-flow sort of pony. If one of their friends shows up and goes “Hey, wanna head down to the Post and go to a cafe?” Leon, provided they aren’t in the middle of something, will just pick up and go. They don’t really need to plan events or trips weeks in advance and often work better with spur of the moment types of things. The only downside to this is that when an event like this happens, Leon...usually doesn’t tell anyone where they’ve gone. They could be there one minute and completely gone the next with no inclination as to what may have happened. They could be dead in a ditch somewhere and no one would be any the wiser.
Secretive
Due to the many serious circumstances surrounding their past and current life, Leon tends to keep a lot of things secret from people outside the family. If you ask them why they never seem to notice anything or anyone standing on their right side, they’ll shrug it off and blame it on the wind. If you ask why they always linger in front of mirrors for just a second too long, they’ll pull their hat down over their eyes and play it off with a wink, cracking a quick joke to cover the movement. It’s also rare that you’ll find them talking about whatever they’re thinking about in the current moment. The reply they’ll usually give if someone does ask is either “stuff” or “things,” much to other’s annoyance.
Guilt Ridden
As a result of the accident involving their niece and the other accident with their old friend, Leon feels directly responsible for everything that has happened to them both. While each incident was no one person’s fault, (more or less) that doesn’t stop their heart from twinging a little whenever they see Hana’s prosthetic or the empty glass bottle sitting on their desk. The wound is still fresh and the guilt hasn’t eased up any, often leaving Leon to wallow in self pity loosely disguised under a mask of aloofness.
Insecure
Even before the accident that left them forever scarred, Leon had been insecure, but not in the way you would think. Their appearance had never been at the forefront of their troubles, it was rather their standing in the Myuru family. Their brothers were able bodied, able to work in the fields without any drugs to keep their body from constantly shaking. They could speak normally without a stutter to get in the way. Shinji and Keijou had been blessed with functionality and ability, so why hadn’t Leon? The feeling of “being a bother” never really set in with the mule, however. They took care of themselves and tried not to bother anyone with their problems. It worked, at least, for a while. After losing their leg and eye, (and gaining a load of scars,) insecurity over their appearance began to set in as well. Leon cannot bear to look at themselves in the mirror, shape shifted or otherwise. When disguised, they feel as if they are lying, and when not, they feel too terrified for words. No one has seen all of Leon’s scarring besides Reiho, and no one else will.

Bulletpoint Timeline
- 0: Leon is born as the middle child of a large family of rice providers in Breim. (June 1656)
- 5-30: Around the age of five, Leon begins to develop a strong motor tic that grows only worse over time and begins to interfere with their work. A local healer prescribes a oil made from the cannabis plant, (aka WEED) and Leon is tasked with taking care of the plant and making their own medicine. Much later in life, Leon learns from a traveling pack of Serorans that the plant can be smoked as well and picks up the habit. (1661-1698)
- 31-42: After a very bountiful harvest, Leon and their brothers head to the capital of Nariah for the Night of the New Sun. There, Leon bumps into Reiho, a hippocampus healer, and after a rough start the two become friends, visiting each other often as their villages are only a few miles apart. Later, Reiho’s family moves into a village nearby and he gains a teleportation blessing which makes this an easy feat. (1662-1698)
- 43: As winter sets in, Leon purchases a set of “Kaia imbued” heat lamps that supposedly allows one to grow heat and light loving plants all through the winter. Enlisting the help of their niece Hana, Leon and Reiho begin moving the potted cannabis into the basement when the lamps suddenly overheat and explode, showering the room in shards of crystal. Leon was able to throw themselves in front of Hana and took the brunt of the blast, but was unable to cover her back left leg, which became riddled with glass. Reiho, who had been far enough away from the blast to escape unharmed, grabbed Hana and rushed her to a healer, knowing Leon was as good as dead already. After getting the mare help, Reiho ran back and grabbed Leon’s body, utilizing his blessing to teleport Leon and himself to his home in the village nearby. Using a mysterious potion locked in a box on his desk, Reiho doused the mule’s body in the shimmery liquid and promptly passed out. When he awoke, a very much alive Leon was sitting up and picking shards of glass out of their scarred and bloodied skin. (1699)
- 43: Taking assessment of the damage, the revived Leon had received a massive scar across their right side, a missing back right leg, a blinded right eye, and a syndrome they would later learn was called exploding head syndrome. Using their blessing full time to cover the damage, Leon stays in Reiho’s house for a while to recover and readjust. (1699)
- 44: Reiho’s health begin to fail as Leon recovers and the hippocampus collapses in the night, passing away from a heart attack. After the burial, Leon takes his journal and returns home, where he discovers that Reiho had been suffering from a severe amount of stress that ultimately caused his death. After this revolution, Leon continues to work in the fields as a way to work out their grief. (1700)
History
Birth/Childhood/Teens
Born to a traditional family of providers based above ground Sirith, Leon was a hardy little mule from the start. They were to be the middle child of an eventual three, following by example in everything and anything they did. Put to work early, Leon was given basic tasks, mostly fetch and carry jobs that could’ve been done by anyone. Beyond that, Leon’s childhood was more or less uneventful. They grew, they learned, they worked. It was peaceful, for a time. Around Leon’s fifth birthday, their parents began to notice that Leon would twitch and tic strongly every once in a while, without any apparent cause. Leon never came outright and mentioned it to the pair, so the adults simply assumed it wasn’t hurting them and just kept an eye on it to make sure it wouldn’t get any worse. Leon did well for a while, able to ignore the motor tic for the most part, until it finally became too much and started to interfere with their work, causing them to trip or drop easily broken items. At that point, the Myuru’s decided they had no choice and took the little one to a healer to get a diagnosis. The old healer originally hailed from Onea and had heard stories of another horse with strong motor tics like Leon’s. That mare had been prescribed a sort cannabis oil that didn’t cause any intoxicating effects which supposedly helped the problem, so with luck, perhaps it would work on Leon as well. The gods must’ve been on their side that day, because Leon did indeed get better with the oil’s help. In order to avoid the expense of continuously bringing in the rather costly cannabis oil, Leon was given their first important task on the farm: growing the cannabis themselves. Leon took good care of the tall stalks, learning from the healer how to tend to it to get the most growth possible as quickly as possible. For as young as they were, growing and producing the oil was rather easy. Fast forward to a good fifteen-twenty years later, Leon had learned from a pack of traveling Serorans that you could also smoke the plant as well, a habit which has stuck with them to this very day.
Adulthood
Around the same time Leon discovered the sweet stench of weed, their family had begun to get ready for the annual trip down to Nariah for the Night of the New Sun. The journey was long and difficult, but Leon had traveled it before without much difficulty. Once the family had settled in to their home below ground, the three siblings were free to mill about the big city as they saw fit. Leon was never one for parties and the dark cavernous ceiling overhead had them feeling a little claustrophobic. Sequestering themselves away in an alley behind a brightly lit cafe, Leon lit a joint with a nearby lamp and did their best to relax. This was a party after all. It was supposed to be fun. Letting the smoke in their lungs fuzz their mind a little, Leon mentally prepared to exit the alley. Just as they took one step forward, another figure quickly slithered into the space, crashing into Leon and throwing them both off their hooves. After pulling himself off the cobblestone floor, the strange hippocampus stallion started to rush off down the alleyway again before looking back at the dazed mule lying on their side. Letting out a quiet puff of air, he trotted back and helped Leon to their feet, quickly apologizing before rushing off again. Leon, while a little offended, supposed that that was that and dusted themselves off before rejoining their brothers in the throng. Later that week, Leon found themselves back at the cafe, though they were inside of it this time, not out back. Casually watching the horses coming and going throughout the shop, Leon noticed that one of the horses waiting in line looked exactly like the one they had bumped into earlier. (Small world, huh.) Leon dropped their gaze as to not stare, but no less than a minute later, the quiet screech of a chair being moved snapped their eyes up. The hippocampus had drawn up a seat to Leon’s table, two cups of tea held delicately in his teke. Passing one to Leon, the stallion introduced himself as Reiho and bowed gently, explaining as he stood that the tea was an apology from him for crashing into them earlier. The stallion continued, mentioning that he was visiting from another town for the festival and had been late to a business meeting, thusly shedding light on his rushed actions. Leon accepted the tea graciously and struck up conversation with the charming stallion. Through the course of their little meet and greet, the pair learned they lived only few villages over from each other. It would be a couple days journey should they ever decide to visit, but they both were used to traveling. At the end of their time Nariah, Reiho joined the Myuru Family on their way back topside, eventually breaking off when they reached the surface. Leon didn't hear much from Reiho after that, until a small bird arrived at their doorstep. Inside was a letter from the hippocampus healer, which Leon read in earnest. After that, the pair sent letter after letter, gradually establishing a solid, hearty friendship. A full year passed and when the Night of New Sun rolled around again, Reiho was invited into the fray and eventually traveled back to the Myuru’s home with them as a guest. He spent a few weeks with them, and eventually traveled home, inviting Leon to come over to his place a little while down the road, if they wanted to of course. Leon accepted immediately and thus began the continual cycle of village swapping. Reiho became a regular face in the Myuru’s village and Leon was a welcome sight in Reiho’s, up until the point that Reiho’s family decided to move. In an odd twist of fate, Reiho ended up much closer to Leon’s place than he had been previously, settling down in the sister village of his friend’s home.
As more time passed and more bright and shining faces made their home in the house of the Myuru family, it had begun to grow a little cramped. As a quick fix, Leon bought some supplies and built a smaller annex off to the side of the main house with a basement and spare guest room for Reiho. As fall set in, Leon knew that the oncoming winter was going to be a cold one. In the interest of saving at least some of their plants, Leon and Reiho began to toss around ideas on how to make an indoor greenhouse for the cannabis in the basement. In the interest of not burning down their home by using candles, Leon purchased some “Kaia Imbued” crystal lamps from a traveling merchant. The lamps thrummed with arcane energy and when powered on, they emitted a decent amount of heat and light, perfect for keeping the cannabis alive. Without thinking much about it, Leon simply turned the lamps on and began transplanting the stalks into pots. Enlisting the help of their niece Hana, the trio began moving the plants into the basement of the annex. As they took a few steps down the staircase, the hair on Leon’s neck stood up. Something was wrong. The thrumming hum in the air was getting louder, and the entire room buzzed with energy. Before they even realized what was about to happen, the counterfeit lamps exploded, sending sharp shards of crystal towards the teenage mare. Throwing themselves in front of Hana, Leon took the brunt of the blast, though they were unable to entirely shield her from it. Reiho, who had been far enough away to escape the explosion unscathed, picked up the smaller mare and rushed her upstairs to the rest of the family, knowing Leon was as good as dead already. Upon getting the mare help, Reiho ran back to the basement and grabbed Leon’s body, utilizing his newly aqquired blessing to teleport Leon and himself to his home in the nearby village. Barely conscious and on the brink of collapse, Reiho grabbed a bottle filled with a swirling, glittering liquid that had been resting in a box on his desk and doused the mule with it. Promptly passing out from overexertion, the hippocampus later awoke to find a very much alive Leon sitting up and picking shards of gemstone out of their skin. The aftermath of the blast had left Leon with a massive scar across their right side, a missing right leg, a blinded right eye, and a peculiar case of “exploding head syndrome” as they would later find it to be called. Leon, terrified and frightened of their new appearance, used their shape shifting blessing to cover it up, disguising the scars underneath an illusion of their original form. Using the blessing to cover every single scar and scrape was strenuous, and in an effort to not force themselves into a state of constant focus, Leon let the ripped skin of their amputated leg show, as well as a small patch of scarring under their eye. Taking time to heal and readjust to using a prosthetic and their blessing full time, Leon stayed at Reiho’s house for three months, sending word to their family that they were fine, but unable to travel.
Under Reiho’s strict watch and constant care, Leon healed quickly. The deeper scars were there to stay and the fur on those patches would likely never grow back, but walking no longer sent shocks of agony throughout their body, so Leon considered it an improvement. As they healed however, Reiho seemingly suffered. The signs were subtle and Leon barely noticed it themselves, but as Reiho’s breathing became unsteady and his energy waned, it became worrisome. When asked, the hippocampus would merely brush it off and say he was fine and unfortunately, Leon believed him. It was a shock to find the hippocampus unresponsive in his bed one morning. Nothing could be done for Reiho either, his body was already cold when they’d found him in his bed. A local healer had ruled it a heart attack, and aided by a horse with Retrocognition, they found it to be true. Reiho’s family had him buried in the village’s tiny cemetery, next to his grandfather. As the ceremony came to a close, Leon was hollow. With his best friend in Argus’s embrace, they felt almost guilty about still being alive. Reiho had put every ounce of his soul into helping them get better and for what? Leon felt cheated, in a sense. Reiho had been taken too soon, it hadn’t been his time yet. With these feelings in their heart, Leon bid goodbye to the family they had become so close to in the past years and set out for home, promising to write as soon as they could.
Current
With nothing of theirs to truly pack, Leon took two small things from Reiho’s home before they left: the glass bottle that had held that shimmery liquid and Reiho’s journal. Perhaps it was selfishness that made them stuff the leather bound pages into their bag, but Leon needed to have something from their old friend. Something personal. The bottle was another spur of the moment choice. Reiho had told them a story of an unusual salesman who offered two bottles of the stuff for a mere ten shards. Wether it worked or not wasn’t truly important, it was pretty, if nothing else. Reiho had taken a chance on it and used the potion on a field mouse his father’s cat had caught. When the creature suddenly popped back to life, the hippocampus knew it was the real deal and kept the other bottle locked away should an accident befall any of his family. Leon knew the potion was real, they wouldn’t have been there without it, and vowed to find that same salesman and buy another bottle to bring Reiho back if they could. It may have been selfish, but they needed their best friend back, no matter the cost.
The moment Leon set hoof back on the Myuru property, the entire household swarmed them with a whole slew of questions. How were they? Where was Reiho? How were they holding up? Leon, more tired that they’d ever been, answered most of these questions as best they could, doing their best to shove the grief back down into their throat. After their questions had been answered and Leon was able to get a proper prosthetic, they began to go through Reiho’s journal, looking though the scribbled mess of drawings and entries. Near the end of the diary, Leon discovered that Reiho had become extremely stressed from overanalyzing every little thing he did or said, and Leon’s sudden death had taken a toll on his body that he wasn’t prepared for. After this revelation, Leon’s determination to revive their friend multiplied. Guilt wormed it’s way deeper into their soul as well, and to avoid falling into the same trap that had caught Reiho, they went back to work in the fields, throwing themselves into their job to avoid the sharp stabbing pain that snaked throughout the right side of their body and heart.
Chapter Seven
Leon mostly attributed the entire events of Chapter Seven as a bad drug trip. He brushed off the weird spirits as a side effect and went home to take a nap.
Ascendance
Leon awoke late the morning after the Labyrinth had risen. The day before there had been nothing but empty feels and the next there was a whole ass town nearby and Leon is determined to take it in stride. At least it’ll make visiting the relatives easier.
Trivia- Leon has had severe motor tics ever since they were five years old. Cannabis is the only thing that truly makes it go away, but when they are unable to get oil or buds to smoke, the tics come back tenfold.
- Despite not having a vocal tic in addition to their motor ones, they do have a stutter that again, only dissipates with that sweet sweet Mary Jane.
- Due to both intense weed use and their resurrection, Leon always wears a hat to cover their eyes, which have become extremely light sensitive over time.
- Leon’s right eye is blind, but does not appear to have any damage done to it even when Leon is not shifted, oddly enough.
- The scars hidden beneath their shape shifted appearance are extremely sensitive and hurt to the touch. Because of this, Leon will never sleep on their right side.
- The lamps incident gave Leon exploding head syndrome, a condition in which only makes itself known when the afflicted tries to fall asleep or wake up. People with this condition will randomly perceive a loud auditory hallucination during these times, like a loud bang or crash. The noises don’t cause pain or any other symptoms, it’s just really startling, especially when they’re trying to sleep.
- Upon returning to the Myuru house, Leon saw the dinky little prosthetic Hana had been given and promptly decided that wouldn’t do at all. Taking out a few crystal shards from their savings and a favor from a friend, Leon bought the pair matching gold prosthetics. They were different in form, of course, but Leon made sure that the metal was all came from the same vein, showing that they were still family, no matter what.
