Description I almost put this in "landscapes and scenery", but it doesn't really fit there. I can't in any sense of the word call a tornado "scenery." We need a weather category!

Anyway, another picture for the 100 theme challenge: [link] I did this one for "doom".

I was pleased with how it came out, too!

Your tornado drawings are the best I have ever seen! I love it! BTW, do you just think of the shapes or do you base them off of pictures? Anyway, love it!

Hello, thank you! I love tornadoes. Some are based vaguely on pictures, but I have studies and gazed at and ogles enough tornado pictures that I know the basic types and shapes and can make my on too.

I was supposed to go at the beginning of june... my best friend is in the QuebecVortex team and he went there at the end of may and beginning of june. But as the weather wasn't good for tornadoes (that's a good thing for the people living there but a sad thing for the chasers and researchers), me and my other friend from the QuebecVortex team choose to stay here... And it's a chance because nothing happens finally the days we were supposed to be there...

hyenacub In reply to CaroRichard [2009-06-13 05:32:01 +0000 UTC]

True..you always take a chance. You're up in Canada? Do you get a lot of tornadoes there? We live in Nebraska, USA, which gets their share. In theory anyway. There've been several since I moved here but I never personally saw any of them. LOL They get more a bit farther south.

CaroRichard In reply to hyenacub [2009-06-13 05:37:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes we have tornadoes... mostly in the prairies... just north of the tornado alley. Here in Quebec, we have some in the summer... last year we add a tornado on the st-Lawrence river, over the great city of Montreal !!! I've also filmed a funnel by the 10 of June... [link] and my video : [link] The funnel is really hard to see... it starts to form at 1:45...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hyenacub In reply to CaroRichard [2009-06-13 05:43:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, that's a gorgeous funnel! Not a bad video oof it on your part, either! Hoe it didn't do too much damage.

I have been to Canada only once, in the beginning of summer 1994. Our marching band went up to Winnipeg for the band festival there. And it was nice and hot! Though I could have done without the heat during the two-mile parade in full uniform.

CaroRichard In reply to hyenacub [2009-06-13 05:51:47 +0000 UTC]

well, if something happens this summer, I'm ready! I bought a new digital video cam... I was using my digital camera to film...

But I did a mistake while chasing... I don't have internet in my car so I used the last radar picture I saw on GrLevel and I went out for the chase... but I forgot to take a look at the speed this storm was moving... I first was in a good position but then I enter in a road construction zone... and I wasn't able to turn back a go to a safer position... Finally, I was forced to "core punch"... that's not what you want to do...

Hey! I just wanna say that I'm on a chase trip... I'm chasing with 2 of my friends from the Quebec Vortex team... we are in Illinois, south of Chicago! I hope we'll catch something !

CaroRichard In reply to CaroRichard [2009-06-13 06:03:44 +0000 UTC]

[link] ... there's a little something about the core punch expression

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

hyenacub In reply to CaroRichard [2009-06-13 05:53:34 +0000 UTC]

I take my camera out a lot during good tornado weather LOL Got some good lightning somewhere.

"Core punch"? Te rain on the windshield didn't help!

CaroRichard In reply to hyenacub [2009-06-13 05:57:55 +0000 UTC]

lol If I had the chance to turn back on the road (or if I looked at the traffic construction on the internet), I would have been able to take better pictures... next time !

hyenacub In reply to CaroRichard [2009-06-13 05:58:41 +0000 UTC]

I imagine so! lol But that phrase you used, "core punching"...not sure what that means.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CaroRichard In reply to hyenacub [2009-06-13 06:00:58 +0000 UTC]

it's a term we use when a chaser get caught by a storm... usually, chasers stay "out" but near the storm... because in the storm, it's normaly hard to take good pictures... and it's not safe !

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hyenacub In reply to CaroRichard [2009-06-13 06:05:13 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh got ya. Yes I imagine it's difficult to take a picture from right in the middle of the darned thing. LOL And not as safe as one might like. But definitely exciting!

The closest I ever got was the formation of a pitch black...either a thunderhead forming or a wall cloud...but it was coming down right at me so I think it was a wall cloud...directly above my head. Maan, THAT was awesome.

CaroRichard In reply to hyenacub [2009-06-13 06:10:47 +0000 UTC]

I really understand the feeling... We had a lot of severe weather events last summer and I had the chance to experience it... [link] in this video, I was with a friend and my sister on the Mont-Royal, a little mountain in the city of Montreal... the whole storm was rotating (but I made a mistake again and didn't install the camera on something stable so the rotation isn't really visible) but luckily, I filmed thunder strikes !!! This storm causes flash flood in the city and a lot of damages... you can see the rain in the river...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hyenacub In reply to CaroRichard [2009-06-13 06:18:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah...there are streams all over the place here, and they always flood during heavy rains. : P That sucks! Our apartment floods minorly sometimes too. Or used to, anyway.

You have a lot of nice storm videos! I only have one or two, and it's mostly thunder. LOL And one of them goes sideways for a while because I had a brain fart. I often take photographs with the camera sideways, to capture longer shots. But I had the video aspect of my digital camera on...a feature I never had before...so I did it without thinking. LOL So I have a sideways storm.

I like the layout, and I get a *hint* of the tornado's power, but I want MORE. I want to see a calm sky being disturbed by a furious tornado, with flying debris everywhere. Maybe consider changing the pallet from browns to blues. It might help it look less like a dustup in the dust bowl to an angry, raging storm.
Good job overall though.

Hmm...the debris in particular is a good point! My next tornado will have more debris...no flying cows, though. Thanks for the comments!
