Again, what's this!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hypnothalamus In reply to Darkness-Nightguard [2011-05-19 21:55:16 +0000 UTC]

it's done by programming - basically a tube with spikes rendered with a simple reflection map and post-processed in photoshop

A particularly dangerous life form, the Europan thorny worm Vermillus Hyperdermica ... definitely one to avoid with those needle-like retractable spines!

Genius!

This feels even more like a beating heart than the earlier version. Like it's pulsing, with the spikes coming out...And I love the colors. Creepy and beautiful!

I wish I could have it on my wall, in some digital frame on a continuous loop.

hypnothalamus In reply to waxburden [2010-09-18 17:17:48 +0000 UTC]

so do I... I'm still trying to figure out how to create moving art on a large panel(without using a big and expensive screen or a video-projector)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

waxburden In reply to hypnothalamus [2010-09-18 19:34:32 +0000 UTC]

It's got to be a challenge, for sure! Maybe there would be some way repurpose panels for your use, or something. D:

...Your works would look totally awesome projected on smoke

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hypnothalamus In reply to wompum [2010-08-26 08:01:25 +0000 UTC]

i wrote the code myself so it's basically my own program

Dangerously beautiful. I am mesmerized by the serpentine movement. I would say, though that it might be nice to have the blue spike show up in the color that is shaded. Very nice work though.

Alhadis [2009-06-03 11:58:50 +0000 UTC]

Buddy, you have me wishing I knew code as well as you do. But my crappy Actionscript 3 skills aren't going to accomplish anything in three dimensions...

I think I'll just stick to 3D modeling, rather then programming... too much math. (And I'm damn near dyscalculic).

Damned fine work, and the specularity looks great. ^_^ Real-time rendering?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hypnothalamus In reply to Alhadis [2009-06-03 14:25:43 +0000 UTC]

the rendering is almost real time because I did it in software with my own code, but if it's accelerated with the graphics card using OpenGL or DirectX it should run very fast - especially since there are some things you can keep directly on the graphics card without any update

anyway I'm in the process of doing this and some other stuff with the graphics card

Alhadis In reply to hypnothalamus [2009-06-03 23:11:53 +0000 UTC]

What language did you code it with? I'm interested.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hypnothalamus In reply to Alhadis [2009-06-03 23:53:34 +0000 UTC]

Pascal, but it could be easily made in C, C++
even in Delphi you can write your code in Pascal or C and maybe C++
Delphi is a development environment for Windows but for some time now it's called CodeGear (I still use Delphi 7 which was the last version of Delphi)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Alhadis In reply to hypnothalamus [2009-06-04 00:08:37 +0000 UTC]

Easily? What handles the rendering? :\

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hypnothalamus In reply to Alhadis [2009-06-04 00:16:26 +0000 UTC]

it's my own code that draws the triangles - I write pixel colors in a buffer that I then put on the screen

but I'll start using OpenGL routines for rendering triangles because it's a lot faster

Alhadis In reply to hypnothalamus [2009-06-04 00:21:22 +0000 UTC]

So, you're a programmer then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hypnothalamus In reply to Alhadis [2009-06-04 00:28:17 +0000 UTC]

yeap

Alhadis In reply to hypnothalamus [2009-06-04 00:33:42 +0000 UTC]

Hah-hah, nice.

I'm an artist who can code... but I have limits sadly. :$

hypnothalamus In reply to hypnothalamus [2009-06-04 00:17:23 +0000 UTC]

"easily" means that once you have the code in Pascal it's not that different in C
