Description I love Buster Keaton. I love his insane stunts. I love the surreal, almost modern quality of his films. I love the fact that he can get into the most harebrained situations and emerge with that same deadpan expression. And I love that he makes me, strangely enough, sad and happy at the same time.

I started this a long time ago, and then I lost it. But I was digging through my mountain of papers the other day and rediscovered it, so I decided to finish it. This more or less embodies the humor of Buster Keaton. It's literally impossible to watch his films without saying, "Pooooor Buster."

If you've never seen any of his films, start with "The General". Or "Steamboat Bill, Jr." They're both on Netflix, so go watch them. Now.

(Also, if his right hand looks a little odd, there's a reason. He was actually missing the tip of his index finger.)

Eheh, I love Seven Chances. ^_^ This is amazing.

Apparently the joke behind this scene, which the contemporary audience would have gotten but we have no idea about, is that the performer he was going into the theater to propose to was actually a famous female impersonator.

Why thank you! I'm quite partial to it myself. But that's probably just because it's Buster.

haha. Very nice touch keeping the finger like that. That must have been really difficult to illustrate that right when you're used to drawing standard hands.

At first I thought that the brim of the hat was a toilet seat from looking at the thumbnail. *Smack of the head*

Ha! It does kind of look that way, doesn't it? I could easily imagine someone hitting him in the head with a toilet seat in one of his films... although back in the '20s, that probably would've been taboo or some such nonsense.

Balderdash. I wouldn't have wanted to live in a time period where it's considered taboo to hit someone with a toilet seat.

Oh yeah, if I forgot about the finger, I'd have to suffer the wrath of the Buster fans. Thanks for the fave!

HA!! Oh, THIS is good. My brother introduced me to Buster Keaton. That guy was a genius.

This is a great likeness of him. The cheekbones, those sad eyes, and that GORGEOUS nose. He was a cutie, no question.

You're welcome!

Y'know, I've seen several Keaton movies, and I never even noticed he was missing part of his finger! How did it happen?

Ironically, it DIDN'T happen while doing one of his crazy stunts. He got it crushed in one of those old-timey clothes wringers when he was a little kid. OUCH.

This is sooo adorable. I've only seen a few clips of Keaton on certain tributes to silent films and stuff like that, but I really love him. I'll have to check out the films available on Netflix soon. (Also, the fact that he was the inspiration behind Johnny Depp's character in Benny and Joon is my favorite thing ever.)

I used to think I didn't like silent films, but all that changed when my high school Drama teacher made us watch Keaton and Chaplin. Now I love them both. But I prefer Keaton's self-deprecating style over Chaplin's irreverent-bordering-on-mean humor.

And I LOVE Benny and Joon. There's a line from that movie that I still quote to this day: "Having a Boo Radley moment, are we?"

My dad inoculated me with silent films when I was young, so I've always liked them... the serious ones are so fun to make fun of... But I never really liked Chaplin, myself. I don't dislike him, but I don't especially like him, either. Something to do with the humor you mention. XD

Oh, me too, that movie is so sweet... Hahaha, yes! XD

Yeah, Chaplin's definitely an acquired taste. I wasn't crazy about him at first, but he grew on me. But I loved Buster from the very start. Unlike Chaplin, he never asks his audience to feel sorry for him. When he falls, he just picks himself up again. He's just so determined and... plucky.
