How about a really short CC.
Love the lighting, the composition, the subject. You might consider taking just a little off the right edge to move the bear
more into the right 1/3. One of your best
environmental shots. Love it!

Geez i'm commenting again. I forgot to mention.. Love the shallow DOF.
I think the old dead tree just to the left of the bear and the 1 grey branch just to his right are both distracting. I'd remove them, to keep our eyes from wandering too much off the main subject.. that beautiful bear.

Too many out of focus trees = crappy photo. Try again.

I should of used a lens with more DOF, maybe the bear will let me use my 16-35mm next time!

Dude I definitely think that would have been a better idea. Perhaps in the future you can use your sooper zoom camera phone and not have any blur at all.

it's a beautiful piece of work, I don't know much about photography, but this one has the feeling of piece in it, and that's why I like it so much. Really, beautiful.

Simply amazing, the focus just completes this shot! I could only imagine how incredible it must have been to be in the presence of such a magnificent creature in its natural habitat! I'm sure you feel very fortunate everytime!

This is so beautiful! I always love your wildlife photography. The only thing that bugs me is the trees in the backround. I think they're a little to out of focus and they're seems to be a bit of noise in that area. Other then that it's an awesome shot!

Iamidaho In reply to Seraitsukara [2009-10-27 04:16:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks shooting at 560mm the DOF is so narrow there is no way I could of gotten the trees in the far background to snap into focus but i do wish I had thought of shooting this shot a bit stopped down to at least grab the dead tree in the immediate background

Thanks for your feed back

I am thinking it is around 3 years old probably the bears very first winter on its own. It had a very clean face and seemed youthful and not fully grown.

good to see it all plump and ready for a winters nap. The black bear I came across while hiking did not look ready for winter at all.

That's not good. I wonder how all those really young bison calves are going to do.

Iamidaho In reply to StringOfLights [2009-10-27 02:54:59 +0000 UTC]

this early wallop of a storm we are getting is not going to be good and is going to tax there calorie reservoirs early, the coyotes I saw all had there winter coats ready to go but many of the young bison looked to still be working on completely growing in there winter attire.
