she had 3 skewers through her mouth and yes, when they were pulled out, this is what happened.

woooow...=\ what religion is it?

iamkatia In reply to melodyelody [2006-11-09 03:55:57 +0000 UTC]
it's not a religion. it's PURE-CIRKUS, a piercing and suspension performance group/circus: [link]

Ohh..ok yeah i remember seeing quite a few photographs of PURE members in your gallery...maybe more than quite a few...hmm ok so maybe i surfed through your whole gallery..=]] loved it. but the description mentions something about 'preaching' or 'sermon', so i assumed it was a religious gathering-type-thing...

i photograph quite frequently for a bizarre circus here in seattle called 'PURE-cirkus' - [link]
this photo was made at a performance called 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil'.
lyndze was 'speak no evil' and had skewers pierced through her mouth.
i made this frame when the skewers were removed.

I read your comment and then zoomed into the picture... sent a little shiver down my spine, while there is blood dripping down her neck the way her head is tilted back looks almost graceful, it's it a beautiful, confronting picture... kudos!

Is it like a sermon or preaching or something? And did they rip them out? Very intresting pic, makes me very curious...

i first thought it was a play or something . . . then i read more . powerful , yes . scary too not because of the picture itself but more of the reality it conveys . no churches shouldnt be that cruel . he looks like a insane monster over her like waiting just to kill her .
yes powerful. my respects

I certainly makes me react, which is important in art...I can't say that I would really understand what was going on without some sort of explanation from you.
I know it's a trick of light, but Justin looks like he is an afterthought - I'm not sure if he adds or detracts placed where he is.
I like how she is centered, good light - I know this sort of shot is difficult in lower light and I appreciate the sharpness.

what is it? i can't understand it. I can't understand the relation between the two, it seems like a theatre shot where justin is on a screen behind the woman.
it is intense but not bothering.

some people of P.U.R.E. (People Undergoing Real Experiences) do piercings and suspensions
as part of PureCirkus - a somewhat darkish and twisted local circus in seattle.
lyndze had small spears put across her mouth as part of a 'speak no evil' segment.
this frame was made after the skewers were removed from her mouth.

I love that.
This photograph is other-worldly.
It's haunting, yet so beautiful...

For some reason, this reminds me of West Side Story.
I don't know - it just does.
Great shot though.
Works very well in b/w.

That's a pretty upsetting shot ... immediately reminds me of Branch of David or that Jones guy in Guyana for some reason.

Indeed it is powerful, and as mentioned quite in-your-face and slightly discomforting. Something I've said before is that art (or at least a significant part of art) is something that generates a distinct emotion in you, not necessarily a 'happy' emotion. According to that standard this succeeds, also on the levels of composition (blah blah, but yes it's good, with the almost ghost-like man pacing around behind her)
I can't say I enjoy this, but I appreciate it, and it is thought-provoking and demands attention, so yes, excellent work!
Why do you like it so much?

iamkatia In reply to FrostyMonkee [2006-05-10 15:30:43 +0000 UTC]
it somewhat fascinates me, that's all. it's dark and it intrigues me.
and i don't see anyone else photographing these things.
and yes, it evokes emotion. i like that. it's raw and real and beastly.

I love this kind of thing. Please, do lots more. Pain, grief, anger, hate, boredom, laughter - unposed, spontaneous.
Some of us do photograph this kind of thing - I have lots of photos of malnourished homeless kids and their families - but I have only posted a couple here. I think I ought to do lots more.

The blood draws the eye, no doubt. (Thanks so much for putting this up in B&W!)
But the ranting face behind is what reallly impresses. You've not told us the whole story...
Removing pearcings? What with? A blunt pair of pliers?
