Description
"at the edge of darkness, hope is whispering still,
tender, alluring, gently stirring, memories unfurling in the mind,
warm wind from a far forgotten country, long left behind.
...
let the sunlight free the heart forever bound to roam,
and let the waking morning find the weary traveler returning home."
-- "The Song of Hope" from The Lord of the Rings: Original London Production
So this was a father!
When her pack brothers and sisters had brought back a new stranger from the thawing world outside, Lidya had not understood the importance at first. There were many hurt wolves that they brought in from the outside, and she couldn't see what made this one different, until Mama saw him.
Lidya was young, and she did not know a great many things, but one thing she did know was that she had never seen her Mama like that. And she knew from the instant her big, strong Mama had cried out, that this wolf was someone different. New, but important. Mama did not like most strangers, though many of the strangers brought into their vicars' dens were apparently more pack brothers and sisters for Lidya to visit and play with. But this big, dark-hued, battered wolf was not just any pack brother and sister, as she would come to find out.
Father. Lidya very much liked the sound of that.
He did not say much, nor did he move a lot once he'd been set carefully within the vicar den. Happily enough, this was already a favorite destination for little Lidya, who was ever so curious about this newfound addition to their family. She could not climb on him (she'd tried, three separate times, but Mama either told her "no," or new-Father would make a hurt noise), but she supposed that was alright. He was warm and once all the mud was groomed off him (Lidya had helped! She was a very good groomer, you see.), he was also soft. One of her favorite nap spots would soon become the crook between new-Father's foreleg and his neck.
Yes. Lidya liked Father. She liked to make him smile. And what was more, she liked the way he made Mama smile in a way that Lidya had never seen her smile before.
She had not known their family was incomplete before. But now, it felt so much better.
in wake of the murder incidents(tm), pls have Lidya finding out about dad to sooth your hearts just a teeny bit, if it helps. <3 (I also seem to adopt children from the families where the dad goes missing before babies are born and comes back beaten up shortly after LOL; a favorite trope of mine tho so it's PERFECT)
some changes are on their way for Lidya in the wake of all this tragedy, and I wanted to push out this happy fam art first before we got to the angst and growing up.
