Description So much for every day. :eyeroll: From now on I'll just post whenever I get something done, because I have a million projects.

Anyway, this time I went for something different - namely jumped from the digital field to the traditional one. I wanted to practice pencil drawing, which is something I have not done in quite a while. I also tried a different technique from the one I usually go for - smudging, that is.

This is Jed Brophy as Nori the dwarf as seen in the trailer of the Peter Jackson adaptation of "The Hobbit". The one they have apparently named "the starfish" on theonering.net. He has pretty wild hair. Many people apparently don't like his design but I personally find it fascinating! I also love how he looks pretty cunning when you see him move and make faces. <3

Original size: less than an A4.
Drawn with a technical pencil with gods know what kind of lead (it's still the one the pencil came with, haha).
Time spent: 3-4 hours with a dinner break. c:

The colors and contrast have been slightly enhanced in Photoshop, because my scanner kills all color and contrast. :/

Wonky crop is wonky.

AH Nori!! The beautiful thing about black/white pencil drawings is that you can go hogwild with the detail and coloring it won't leach it away! He is an interesting looking fellow with his eyebrows braided up into that very interesting hair-do he has. LOL! And I think that is the most memorable thing about him is his hair unfortunately. I hope, where there are more parts to come, that he will have a little more lime-light than he had in the first installment of The Hobbit. Awesome detail and a beautiful job here!

I hope he'll get the attention he deserves in the following movies as well! It's kind of fun to read about the characters on paper (interviews and such), and never see any of that on screen. But I think it's pretty difficult to give everyone enough screen time. :/

I don't know why people don't like Nori's design. I love how his eyebrows are braided up into his hair. A lot of people have been complaining about how the dwarfs look "too different". I'm thrilled that Peter Jackson gave them all different looks and personalities. Makes it easier to keep them straight!
I like how you drew his eyes. It must have been difficult to keep the sly, cunning look without making him look like he's sleepy.

I know right! I personally love how they are all so different. <3 I wonder how many people would be complaining if they all were what people see as the stereotypical or more acceptable dwarves - it would be harder to tell them apart, and you would not be able get clues of their personality and character by their looks. I'd probably think them boring, honestly! xD I love Nori's design to bits and have had some serious laughs while watching the production videos seeing his hair get messier and messier - it's not like a do like that will look perfect after a fight! In #4 or #5 I recall seeing him in a boat with his hair down. That was certainly interesting!

Ooh, the eyes. I noticed a couple of days back that the other eye looks kinda funny here, but I had less problems than I expected! I guess looking at the Lackadaisy Expressions tutorial has helped - expressions have always been my weak spot.
