Looks pretty cool, but either I'm reading this wrong or the rhyme is in the format of baby-talk?

They're the official lyrics to the song... fractured English at best!

Oh man @_@ I haven't seen Elvish script since high school, when I was obsessed XD I used to write out little scrolls, but just on regular printer paper Hey, I remembered enough to be able to read this!

Looks very cool. Again, wonders with the even spacing and no cross-outs or mistakes @_@ Did that simply come with much, much practice?

Yep. Lots and lots of practice.

How long have you been doing calligraphy?

iisaw In reply to WishIWould [2008-12-09 07:00:37 +0000 UTC]

E-gad! Many, many years... over 30, I think.

Oh, wow, that's incredible! I got a calligraphy set with ink cartridges and exchangeable nibs when I was twelve, and have bought replacement kits since then, but I haven't practiced steadily in the eight years since then. This book project is helping me, though! I still need a guiding paper to get the lines straight, but within the lines, each character is becoming more and more even, and each page is becoming consistent "font-size"-wise, too.

Ahahah, that is so cool! I just got a great visual of a bunch of elves at a toga party or something.
The calligraphy and the design are gorgeous as well.

Wow... it`s just fantastic! How did you make the ornaments ? I mean, what paint did you use.

Great work.

btw. It is translated into elvish (quenya? sindarin? ) or it`s transcription?

iisaw In reply to Guenieviere [2007-04-11 04:05:47 +0000 UTC]

It's a transliteration of the English into the Elvish script. I wish I COULD translate the lyrics into Sindarin!

The paint is gouche, and the leaves and letters are gold leaf.

Okay, I got to know your gallery! Again, this is just fantastic! Did you use real gold on the illumination?

iisaw In reply to obscurarts [2006-12-23 21:09:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's real gold. It's not all that expensive, really, because the sheets are something like two molecules thick!

obscurarts In reply to iisaw [2006-12-24 10:06:32 +0000 UTC]

It's not the price, but, as I know, it's not so easy to use it...did you do it as a relief on gesso-ground?

Btw: Thank you so much for the watch, relly appreciated! And merry Christmas to you!

iisaw In reply to obscurarts [2006-12-24 22:04:11 +0000 UTC]

Merry Chistmass to you, too!

Yep, I did it over gesso that was painted with layers of tuscan red and size. A room with no drafts is absolutely essential!

obscurarts In reply to iisaw [2006-12-25 09:38:23 +0000 UTC]

...essential and difficult to get, I guess. I never worked with real gold, but that's something I want to try...if I dare...and get the material!!!

::Laughs:: Okay, so illuminated manuscripts are cool by default... but honestly. Loue loue in Elvish? Do they use it as a way rto ward off orcs?

Were the elves drunk?

I think so... but with elves it's hard to tell.

Awesomeness! Someone else who writes elvish calligraphy! ^_^
The illumination and border are especially impressive.

RabidBrains [2006-12-11 02:34:52 +0000 UTC]

This is cool stuff. Reminds me of the old illuminations people used to do. I don't really know much about calligraphy and the like, so all I know for sure is that it looks really cool to me. But, its really hard for me to picture elves even singing that song, lol.
