Description An interior shot of the engineer's station of the Hard Bargain, the main ship in my graphic novel. I've built a number of permanent sets for the Freelancers graphic novel with lighting, so that I can drop the characters in, pose them, and render quickly and in a persistent world from one panel to the next.
Thought some of you might like to see some of the sets.

This is the place where the engineer spends most of their work time. The armrests of the engineer's chair has communications equipment and some other basic primary controls. The monitors above the chair are touchscreens with access to the ship's computer and engineering controls. The room is basically a nexus of all the engineering functions, and many of the ship's repairs can be done from access panels in this room. MacKenzie Capella, the engineer, often gripes that this room is in the dark belly of the Hard Bargain, away from everyone else.

A large console on the opposite wall from the chair has the Negative Mass Drive control panel. It hasn't been tied into the rest of the systems because it's still the original Xintrin-built control station which only MacKenzie really knows how to read. She'd like to tie it into the rest of the systems, but that would mean taking the HB out of commission for at least a couple weeks, something Shiva Reece, the captain, is loathe to do.

Very detailed, and good work with the materials!
Just one suggestion:
Shouldn't the yellow controls on the chair be faced towards the person sitting in the chair?

If you look close you'll see they're laid out in a pattern similar to where your fingers fall. It's like a keyboard....you're not really supposed to be looking at the keys while you type.

Ah, I see. I just think it would be more logic if the person could see what he was clicking on. But that just my opinion.

i like the details and overall composition of the scene
but i wouldnt mind seeing some chamfer on the controls on the right of the screen

good texture work. looks almost like something you would see in a game

i wouldnt mind seeing some displacement though (considering this is only a still image)
nice work

Well, this was kind of a balancing act. I'm trying to use it as a set in a rendered graphic novel project, and I'm trying to strike a balance between quality and rendering time so I can render panels quickly. The question is whether the quality improvement from some displacement maps would be worth the reduced render time..and if they'd be noticeable enough in comic panels to be worth the effort. This is probably the best look people would get at the set in its entirety.

yeah true

and if you are concerned with render times, probably dont worry about displacment then, because it really slows render times

oh what software are you using?

Daz Studio Advanced for interior shots, Hexagon and DOGA for modeling, Carrara for space and large outdoor settings and GIMP 2.6 for postwork and I'm using Comic Life to put it all together.

Cool in a dim, gritty way. I can see why she'd complain about being away from everyone.
