The deck, the model, the top piece, and the hair all look excellent. The eyes are a bit too big to be realistic IMHO, but as an artistic choice they look fine. The ship/station feels like it blurs a bit too fast, but I'm not sure that is actually the case. In general, she appears to be too much in the foreground -- a separate layer. The boots are the worst and feel like they fit more in 1990's rendering -- they are too hard, too black, the platforms have hard light lines, and sometimes they don't even look like they are on the model [hard break from skin to boot] or touching the deck [the ground shadow is awfully light] (again, all IMHO).

Yeah, I'm not really seeing the boot issues you are.

Nice quality render. The lighting is great and the effects very well implemented. And thanks for the quick lecture about optics in space, it sure will come in handy the day I decide to do a space scene.

Nice outfit... good hair. I love the docking bay environment and the depth of field blur... but shouldn't the starscape also be blurred?

Interestingly, no. The modeler and artist Stonemason once explained in an image that eventually the distance is so great that the amount of blur is unnoticeable, like in some cityscapes. A planet in the distance and stars are so far away that there's not enough variation to blur if you're using a camera. If you were using your eyes, however, there'd be blur.

Well... I'd never thought of that... hmmm.

Supposedly it's because your eyes are stereo but a camera is not. It depends on which you are trying to imitate with a render.
Basically, if you were on the moon looking at an astronaut five feet away with the earth in the distance, the earth would look blurry to your eyes, but if you took a picture, the earth and the astronaut would be clear, while rocks and hills directly behind the astronaut would be blurry.
